we just got back from camping. On the way home my dd 7 drove in the backseat of the truck (DH drove the camper with the suburban and 8 yo)....anyway....Madison kept telling me Babe had a "bubble" on her ear. I thought nothing of it. I figured it was just like a bump on the end of her ear or something. It didn't hurt her or anything cause Madison was even rubbing her ear.

Anyway, I just looked at Babe...and the whole entire ear (they are pretty floppy) is a big bubble!!! Kinda like it was blown up with air or something.....the whole entire hanging part!!!!

She wasn't in contact really with any other animals and actually spent most of the time sleeping in the camper. DH thinks it was from her last fight she had with my friends dog which was a over a month ago. I don't think so because the vet thoroughly checked her out.

I plan to call the vet tomorrow and most likely take her in...but has anyone ever experience this??? Like I said, I can touch it (it is sort of soft) and it doesn't bother her....

Thanks for any input....

Poor puppy!!

It sounds like a hematoma on his ear. Sometimes it can be caused by too much head shaking or itching or an ear infection.

But, I am just guessing!!! I am glad you are going to the vet and I hope it gets better soon!

I was just doing some searching and did find something called aural hematoma...I am reading about it now........

Thanks

My cat had something like that. His whole ear was a big bubble. Turned out to be mites that got under his skin. The vet just cut open his ear and got them out. He had a permanent dent in his ear after that.

Took Babe to the vet yesterday and it is definitely a hematoma. They took them in the back and drained it. They got 40 cc's out....he said that was quite a bit. They bandaged it up. She looks like she has a purple horn on one side of her head....she hates it!
I take her back next Tuesday and if it is forming again they will drain it again and wait a week. If after this 2 weeks it keeps forming they will have to do surgery. Hopefully this will work

This happened to one of our Bichons years ago. Luckily it didn't come back, so he didn't need surgery.

Aren't those hematomas odd?!
