I’m not a big merch buyer at the parks, mainly because it’s usually expensive and it’s rarely anything I’d like to have. Today, however, I was on a mission to find three pins for a friend. She’ll be at the parks in a few weeks but is concerned that they’ll already be gone / sold out by the time she gets there. I had various friends there during the week and asked them to look for me. In both cases – Wednesday and Thursday – they didn’t see any of them. To be clear, two were special OBB pins. I got a few about five years ago for a friend but it was clear early on that they weren’t supposed to be sold outside of the OBB hours. I got lucky the first time and the guy sold them to me, even though I was at DCA in the late morning – long before the party. In any case, I hopped to DCA just after 11:00 this morning and was surprised to find the exact pins for which I was searching. I asked the CM at the counter about them and she explained that event pins are only on sale on the day of the event. That is, on days when there’s no OBB, the pins won’t be available. Perhaps this is something that all/many of you know. But it was news to me.
Brief report:
On the way into the park I met a really nice woman from Yorkshire (central England – I’ve been there twice). She was dressed in a candy corn motif, which I loved. We talked for a bit, grabbed a pic and then they headed off for Rise. Hoped to see her again before I left for the day but no such luck.
The weather was perfect in the morning: slightly cool and never got more than about 74°. At rope drop the crowd was deep but once the park opened it didn’t appear to be particularly crowded.
Today was my best performance ever on Buzz. On my first game I scored 2,087,200. That’s a fantastic score, first ride of the day or not. Another 10,000 and my score would have reset. I broke 2M three more times today (previously, the most times I've broken 2M in a day is twice). In fact, on one of my last rides, I broke 2M on both guns, something else that’s exceptionally rare. I saw the nice family that I met recently and gave each of the kids one of my high scores. The girl was excited that I let her have one of my 2M+ scores.
I was meeting a friend later in the day so I cut out at around 1:30.
