Something I don't understand about those opposed to the war..

people who support the war

pro
n. pl. pros
An argument or consideration in favor of something: weighing the pros and cons.
One who supports a proposal or takes the affirmative side in a debate.

adv.
In favor; affirmatively: arguing pro and con.

adj.
Affirmative; supporting: a pro vote.

i can call you that if you prefer it, but i guess i just don't see the difference.

I echo your words AllyandJack - you can argue a point for me anytime. ;)

I support the war, I support the troops and I support my President and his staff.

Call me anything you want....now be nice.;)

I have to say that every discussion I've been involved in on these boards about this topic has been great. I've read a few threads - only very, very few - where one person or another managed to flush it all down the tubes, but the vast majority of these threads have been respectful and informative. Even though I support the war, I have apprehensions, too. I wish the UN supported us. I wish other countries understood our position. I hate seeing our citizens on TV being held prisoner. I worry about the impact in the future - the backlash from dangerous people (France can boycott us all they want). Coming here and talking about it, even though not everyone agrees with me (the nerve!), helps to relieve some of those anxieties. I think that's why we all come here.....we're all scared and talking to others - even arguing sometimes - helps us.

Plus, when it all gets to be too much, we can pop over to another board and think Disney. You know what I find funny? Some of the threads on the Resort Board get more heated than these threads! :p

caitycaity,

I think Mermaid02 gave an answer to this several posts earlier. I agree with it too. I am definitely pro-freedom and I'm not pro-war. But I do support our president in his attemp to free the Iraqi people from saddam and his regime.

I think everyone is pro-freedom. I think those who support the conflict are pro-freedom, those who do not support the conflict are pro-freedom and those who don't care one way or the other, or who can't make up their minds, are pro-freedom. :)

Maggie, thinking about going into politics? LOL, I think you just about covered all the profreedom bases there ;)

A side bar....

One of my friends is Vietnamese. She is about my age, so she lived through the Vietnam war. She lives here and is a teacher. Has no intention of ever returning to Vietnam, but she said something interesting the other day...She told me it had tken her a long time for het to stop hating the US as a child. She felt that the US abandoned her and her people :( By the way, she has to be one of the most patriotic people I know.

I was born in a Communist country. The US also tried but never succeeded in going in there. My family had to escape and live through hell for years, before being able to make a good life here.

Both of us feel a strong devotion to the country who took us in and has given us so much. Though we both see our countries as sad places where people have suffered and continue to suffer.

I guess it is hard to see it from this point of view. We live in a country where we take so much for granted. The simple act of saying that we do not agree with the President put my father in a prison when I was a child, and he almost died from what they did to him. He was 96 pounds and 5'5". I was w/o a father until I was 7 because he was taken prisoner, when we were able to get out. I am thankful my children will never have the fears, and sadness.

I m off on a tangent...I just want people to understand, that the Iraqi people are not free. They can not voice their concerns, they need our help. God Bless them and the wonderful soldiers who are risking so much for others.

I am not PRO WAR...I hate war....but I am PRO FReedom and not just for those of us lucky to live HERE. Everyone deserves that.

glo - it is wonderful to have people like you and your friend come to this country and make the most of it. So many people either come here or were born here and take it all for granted and don't appreciate it. The same people protesting the government (not the people protesting the WAR, there are some that are just against the government) are the same people who are probably going to school on Federal Loans.

I always look at the women of Afghanistan and other oppressive countries and think that it would have been just as easy for me to have been born there than here and I'm very thankful that I was born here. I never take it for granted and, even though I don't agree with everything the government does, I know it can be a lot worse. People are comparing Bush to Hitler and saying he's the worst terrorist and, thank God, they'll never have to know how wrong they are.

I doubt that many people would consider themselves pro-war. I think that pro-freedom is probably a better choice of words if you're looking at the semantics of it.

Not sure if you care to hear this Canadian's point of view, but I am just a bigtime fence-sitter on this point. As much as I am upset that my country chose not to show support for our neighbours to the south, my personal feelings are mixed. I know GWB said there was proof of WMD in Iraq, I just wish he could have been more forthright in showing the proof. That being said, I pray every day for the safety of your service men and women over there. I know that Saddam is evil personified (and apparently his sons have inherited that lovely gene
 ) but the thought of going to war to stop him, it just bothers me. I guess I hate the thought of any of your countrymen losing their lives over this.

Just my rambling thoughts.

I tried to Katholyn! I think that everyone in this country is pro-freedom, whether they were born here, or like Glo's family and friends, became citizens through the quest for freedom. :) We all just have different points of view that's all, about everything, from politics, to health care, to education, to kids in hot tubs at WDW and on and on. :p.

No one wants anyone to die in a war. Imagine though that the fore fathers of this country decided that they did not want to stand up to England and become free, because people were going to die. THink about what may have happened with slavery if there was no civil war, because people were going to die...I know it is simplified, but anything worth having (and freedom is so precious it is worth almost anything) is worth fighting for.

I will be honest. I would rather not live at all, then to live like those people. I would rather not live at all, than to live like the people live where I came from.....I would not want my children to know that either.Life is only worth living if you can live it not be scared of it.

Wonderfully said, glo. I am not pro-war, but some causes are indeed worth fighting for, IMO. I support the President and Congress in their decision to go to war in Iraq. Let freedom ring!

For me, it's not a matter of not wanting to anyone die for freedom, it's a matter of the politics of this particular war/conflict. I'm pro-freedom too, whether or not I support the politics of the confict. :)

I was and still am, all for going after members of Al Queda that were involved in what happened on 9/11. I also would lay down my life to defend this country from any form of assault. I'm not a pacifist. :)

I'm pro-freedom, really I am! :p

I guess politics does not matter to me, when I heard that more children die in Iraq than in impovrished African countires. That the mortality rate for children under 5 is incredibly high.

This man can do to this country much worse than Al Queda did. This man has been dodging the bullet for 12 years. I guess we can wait and see what he does to us before we stop him. I mean look what he does to his own people.

Latest news is he is killing his own people, by having his elite gaurd dress as US and UK soldiers and then assasinating them when they surrender. If he is doing that to his own, imagine what he has been saving up for the US which he loathes.

I have to weigh in here............as far as I am concerned you can refer to me however you want.........I support our President... I support our Military and I support our Country....I do not need a label but if you feel compelled to give me one.. Fine with me....

No one wants to go to war... certainly not me, but I do feel that once this decision has been made by those in charge, I will abide by that decision........I lived through Vietnam, I went through the Cuban Missile Crisis, both of which scared the life out of me.. I will get through this too...

Just as everyone is probably "Pro-Freedom," so is everyone probably "Pro-Peace." No one wants war, but sometimes war is necessary to promote and preserve peace. Those of us who support this military action, of course, prefer peace, but we feel this cause is worth fighting for.

Who in the world would not be pro-freedom?

As an African American who has fought for YEARS on this land for the freedoms that still evade us I know it personally.

My world is not the same as most Americans on this board, but I don't bother to go into diatribes about it. It's a life of walls that are put up in front of me more often than taken down. It's CONSTANT, daily, minutely.

I have to fight for the freedom of not only myself but my son. This is a tiring fight, but I have no choice but to do it. I deal with people who would rather I not speak, exist or think but I continue to just to erk them. I am so thrilled I live in a society that allows me that freedom.

Like Glo, my Dad suffered through prisons, beatings and discrimination right here in America. He left the South in 1948 to escape a life I couldn't and wouldn't have been able to bear. He still had to endure and did everything he could to raise his family proudly and with digniity. When I asked him why he still called the white man "sir" he said he had to growing up because otherwise he'd be beaten.... :(

He did it so I could be the proud woman I am today.

We all live our lives not knowing what another person has suffered to be here today. And continue to suffer. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the legal freedom that people have died to give me, but the subtle limits that I continue to deal with overshadow me on a regular basis.

Yep, I went off on a tangent.... coming back now.

I think this thread was the most important thread I've ever read on this subject. Everyone gave valid points, valid comments and in the end made me understand things I was still questioning. I thank you all for that.

Have a wonderful day!:teeth:

Glo...I heard he was doing that..I also saw a news report where a bunch a school children showed where there were boxes of weapons stored in their classrooms and that just makes me sick! So SH is hiding weapons in public places so when the military takes some action he can say that the US is killing innocents!

I am not "pro-war", but I truly believe that we need to go in and take care of this. If other countries or people feel this is wrong, so what?

I don't want a label or name placed on me because of what I believe in. I just want to be called an American..because that is something to be extremly proud of!
