Ah, to live somewhere where they cancel school because of things like ice and snow! I did live in VA and NC for awhile and it was like that there. Predict flurries and the grocery stores were mobbed. I still remember one newspaper columnist writing a humorous article about one of the snow"storms" we had. He said something like "As the snow piled up in places sometimes 2 and 3 flakes deep...!"

Janet - For multiday ticket buyers I think you can get a $75 gift card to use at the parks. But I'm not positive.

Tricia - The boys are adorable. I am not finished with my shopping either. Now it is icy, I have to help my sister with her magazine for the next three days and then Ally will be out of school. Good luck with holding the boys off once Joshua is home from school.

Marcie & Mac - You guys can fight over the snow all you want as long as you keep it up your way!

My kids have one of those wooden countdown to Christmas things. It is a big production in the morning when they swap the blocks around to show one less day. If I have to stare at it every time I walk to the kitchen, why not share that joy with all of you?

Yes, the "free" day on your birthday promo isn't much. After you buy the first 3 or 4 days of multi-day park tickets it costs, what, $5 to add another day? Something like that. I do think they offer a gift card if you opt not to take the free day, so make sure you sign up for the freebies Andy/Rob/RAP. It is currently 60 degrees here, but gray and foggy, so I'm not bragging. It may not be cold, but it is still yucky. If only it would really rain. At least then I could say that it is doing something to offset the drought, but nooooo.

Marcie - We didn't get any snow last week but we did get a little ice over night. Of course that meant that the idiots were out in force this morning. I had 4 people, including a bus, pull out in front of me in a single block while taking Ally to school this morning.

Tricia - I thought the gift card was like $75 for the birthday promo. That will pay for a couple of meals or buy a nice souvy.

I wish I could move your way now. Unfortunately it is going to have to wait. It was 70 here Sunday at noon, by 5 it was in the 30's.

We got snow here. I snowed all day last... Monday... I think. Days are blurring at this point. However, since it was 34 degrees, it melted as soon as it hit the ground. You have no idea how mad Joshua was that it was snowing and he still had to go to school... or how mad Daniel was that I wouldn't let him play in it. I let them go outside and catch flakes on their tongue, but Daniel kept wanting to lay down and make snow angels. In the mud. Can't imagine why I had a problem with that.

We've progressed this year beyond the old "boring" advent calendars, to the new improved one sold by the Wisconsin Lottery!

Yes, each day you open one of the doors and eventually try to win money on it! Now tell me that's not more appealing to your average teenager than little pictures of santa are!

Actually our county never cancels, but about 3 weeks ago we had about an inch of pure ice, then snow on top and the idiots never even called a 2 hr delay--this is the same day I did an almost 360 and when the salt truck was coming up the hill flashed his lights for me to move. I just got out of the car and told him to take my car back home.

Wrecks everywhere, buses couldn't make it even with chains--needless to say, there were many phone calls to the board of ed and now they cancel on a day where its not bad. Morons.

Guess it's the same everywhere then. Two winters ago, we had 14 inches of snow (14!!!) Sunday night into Monday and they didn't cancel school. Just the "We're Green Bay darnit and we can take it" attitude. Well, same thing - cars stuck, kids couldn't make it walking or driving, lots of upset parents. Well, then about 3 weeks later they were "predicting" snow/ice. It never actually did anything during the entire school day (had some freezing drizzle in the evening), but they went ahead and cancelled school. What's the phrase "Once bitten, twice shy?"

Having lived in the north and the south, I understand why they close schools in the south for snow and ice. The roads are made of completely different surfaces. The roads in the south are horribly slick and once you start to slide at all, there's no way to get it under control again. When I lived in Utah I used to shake my head and think that peeps in warmer winter climates just didn't know how to drive in the little bit of snow and ice they got once in a blue moon. Boy, did I learn a lesson when I moved to the south! Driving in snow and ice here is at most a death wish, and at least a great-damage-with-high-probability-of-injury wish. I'll stick to northern snow driving on northern road surfaces any day!

I'm finally going to the doctor tomorrow for a thumb that was broken in March and didn't heal correctly, and a shoulder that was injured several years ago. The shoulder has been acting up a lot the last few months, and now it's keeping me awake at night. I was planning to hold out until after vacation, but I need something NOW. If I need surgery, I'll postpone it until we get back. Hoping they have good news and good meds for me.

if a severe storm hits and some power goes out in the town, they have the 2 hour delay for school start...

oh no, you have to be in pain.
shoulder injuries can be miserable. i have had surgeries on both shoulders.
but i do see your priorities are straight.
do the trip first and then schedule the surgery....

the other 2 i knew and they joined us for the rip tour.
it was fantastic.

have to do a repeat again this coming october!!!

we did the exclusive tour of 7 hours. it was absolutely worth it.

What the heck?! Now my weather toolbar is not only giving me warnings for tonight (although it's just 4 inches now, I guess with the wind chill it's worth a warning), but for Thursday night into Friday?! Here's the latest:

ESPECIALLY OVER EAST CENTRAL WISCONSIN. AT THIS TIME... A SWATH OF 6 TO 9 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED SOUTH OF A LINE FROM WISCONSIN RAPIDS TO SHAWANO TO MARINETTE... WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS FROM OSHKOSH TO MANITOWOC.
