Someone poisoned my kitty!

My "baby" was found dead on our doorstep this morning with her head in a box of rat poison. We rescued this cat from the Animal Shelter literally minutes away from being put down. She was a great cat! I can't believe some sicko poisoned my cat! We called the police and they came along with Animal Control and took my kitty as evidence so we can't even have a proper "service" for her. There have been 9 cats killed in the last 5 days or so in my subdivision. 4 poisoned and 5 were mutilated by a serrated knife. I hope they find out who is doing this! It's sick and wrong!!

I waited to tell my kids until after school today and they are taking it hard but a lot better than I did.

Why would someone poison or mutilate an innocent cat?

What would upset me more is that someone in my neighborhood is capable of that and if they are capable of mutilating more than just a cat. That would really freak me out! I hope they catch the person doing it!

Did the cat make it to your doorstep or did someone put him/her there?

I'm so sorry. How hard it must be to live in a neighborhood with such a sick person in the area. Hopefully this person will be caught before they go even further!!! Losing a pet is always hard but under such circumstances it must be almost unbearable.

That's horrible, sick, disgusting and scary. Anybody that can do something like that really needs mental help, and preferrable locked up.

Well for them to know to put it back on your doorstep they must live near you. Secondly sorry about that BUT maybe it is someone who has the neighbourhood cats peeing and pooping in their yards or garden etc and finally got tired of it. That doesn't make it right but in their mind it was a solution. We have to have dogs and cats on a leash in our city maybe if you get another one it would be something to consider.

I agree with the keeping your kitties inside and I know that it is common for people to poison neighborhood cats. It is the mutilation that really gets to me though. Don't get me wrong...I think poisoning a cat is horrible but mutilating cats screams psycho to me. Someone who could possibly do that to a person.

Many serial killers got their starts abusing and torturing pets, and also their playmates when they were children.

I'm sorry about your kitty. Hold a service in his memory, maybe they will be able to find his killer because you reported this terrible crime. And please try to keep your other pets inside until the person or persons responsible are found.

Wow, what sort of sick individual would do this? That is HORRIBLE!!!!

Incidentally, when we adopted our Zoe from a local animal shelter, they made us sign an affidavit that we would keep her as an indoor cat only. They gave us a pamphlet describing the specific reasons it is safer/healthier for cats to be kept indoors...and one of the reasons was neighbors/locals purposely poisoning roaming animals/pets! I was shocked that it is enough of a problem that they actually mention it! The woman there told me it is more common than you would ever imagine and that they end up getting these cats brought in by people who find them wandering and in bad shape. They almost always have to euthanize them. But, most people never know it because the animal dies and the owners assume it ran away or was hit by a car.

It's amazing to me that people could be so coldhearted...

I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty. I just got a new kitten and I know I would be crushed if it were mine.

Of course now if they can do that to animals, I would worry when they would turn on the humans as so many of them do.
