Someone please help

While I don't know that I can offer much help, I am pretty sure you can change your location if it's available. It sounds like Atlantic Dance Hall might be cool and fit great with your colors and it's in the same area as Ariel's.

As for your DF's parents, we just had the weekend from **** with my DF's parents telling us the same thing AND telling us they are no longer going to pay for half of the wedding. 3 months before the wedding, and now we have to come up with $10,000!!!!!!!!!! We're FURIOUS!!!! So here is a hug because I KNOW how you feel! :grouphug:

Are there any special limitations to the Atlantic dance hall? And thanks.

Dont be sad.....the importatnt thing that we all stress here at the boards is that no matter what happens, its all about you & DF/DH....everything else is a bonus

If you dont have a theme, no biggie!!

Do what you want & what makes you happy....im sure it will look incredible!

But if you want a theme...the closest thing I can think of is Pirates(water/fish/black & red)...not exactly weeding like, but someone here did a basket themed after pirates & it was awesome......
Keep an open mind...if you never find a theme excpet your colors that would be just fine...anything goes nowadays...just have fun, enjoy, cause before you know it /.......it'll be over

Good luck & we welcome all questions

Congrats:hug:

Pirate themed is cute, but like you said not for a wedding. I dunno I just feel like I need something to tie it all together with. I don't know. Thanks for your comments though. I feel a little better. Everyone on this board is so nice. No other board would've even cared.

Don't feel bad if you don't have a theme. We spent the whole year of our engagement trying to come up with a theme and finally never had one. Why does it really matter, anyway? Is someone going to walk away from the wedding saying "Wow what a great theme" or "Wow a wedding in WDW!"

As far as the other thing goes, we had both sets of parents telling us the entire time that we should just elope, and his parents in particular telling us that no one would want to come to a destination wedding, blah blah blah. Who cares what anyone else thinks? In the end everyone, even the doubters, were impressed.

Unless you want to call mine "Disney eclectic" I don't have a theme for my wedding. I like all things Disney so I'm just going with that! I'm having Mickey decorations and Cinderella stuff along with a little Beauty and the Beast and maybe Nemo. Knowing my DF he will probably throw some kind of Marvel Comics twist somewhere ( I somewhat expect him to carry his Captain America Sheild down the aisle).
My thing is... why limit yourself to a theme??? Throw in a mix of things you love and just enjoy it!

you don't really need a theme. i didn't have a real theme for our wedding. i had a subtle hidden mickey theme. we had the mickey wave cake..had mickey confetti on the tables, used our hidden mickey invitations and used that design on place cards, etc.

So you don't need a them. First of all I would check into the other locations available for weddings. do you love ariels? have you seen it? I am not being mean here but i was wondering because it seems you might be unhappy right now. Ask your planner if there are any locations available for your date and time that fit your wedding size and go from there. The ADH might be available and is nice - you must have a buffet though.

if not i say work with your colors and the colors in the room. Maybe use more black and less red if you are worried. or do a black and white coloring for tables. i don't know your ideas for theming or you thoughts on adding too much disney in, but you could do disney couples...that ties in with red and being in love. ariel and prince eric could be one whcih ties the location in.

its tough to tie it completely in without using a beach type theme.

What about like a fire/water theme? Only thing that popped into my head for read and blue...not sure how to tie the black in. Not the best idea for sure, but I will keep thinking about it for you. Maybe tell us a little more about you and DF, why you chose red and black for colors for example, and we could think of themes that would fit your personalities. My DF for example immediatly thought of all the super heros that could fit that color scheme but not sure if you want a superman themed wedding!;)

Also, it seems like you might be happier switching locations if the Ariel's theming is going to feel at odds with your colors/theme to you. Do what you will feel great about on your day, not just for someone else.

Karen im sorry you had a bad weekend-- $10,000 is a whole lot of money! :sad2: I dont blame you for being furious!

OP- A theme really isnt necessary-- having your colors is big decision in and of itself! And as for eloping-- I think weve all heard that atleast once or twice, and in a way you kind of are... I think we all resort to a Disney wedding because somewhere in side of us being at Disney allows us to be more ourself and have it our own way-- kinda like eloping makes it all about you-- so does a disney wedding. Where as most of us know if we were to have to have it at home-- it would have to be about the aunts and uncles cousins brothers and what their little snicker comments would be as to what they thought about the colors you chose or what 'so and so' was wearing! Dont worry about it-- we all have that in common-- and to be honest I have never seen one ugly photo of a disney wedding! So look forward to a great wedding, no theme necessary, and a day full of love and laughter even if its only you and your DF- because in the end those are the only two people who matter on your day-- the rest are just a spec of dust in the grand scheme of things. This day is about preparing for a marriage-- which is far more important than a silly theme! You do it your way-- your colors are very pretty and will go wonderfully together. A big hug from me to you!

That's so sweet, you made me tear up. You're right too. I guess I just want things perfect and when I read on here about everyone's wedding and how things are going, I want that too. It's hard though. I'm basically planning by myself, because I am by myself. DF is the type of guy that says "as long as it makes you happy". Don't get me wrong, he'll help but he just agrees with whatever I say. All my bridesmaids live in other states, so to discuss wedding plans I have to call, and I feel that I over talk about it sometimes. I find myself saying "Okay so I know you're tired of hearing about the wedding planning but...". I'm stressing...that's all. Everything will be wonderful, and I'll be so busy I wont even notice how the room ties together.

Well we live states away too but we wont ever get tired of hearing about your wedding planning so just keep right on talking sister! We have all been in your shoes (or are currently there). No worries at all

A red and black wedding would be beautiful, very sophisticated. You could have some mickey's everywhere for a Disney theme or you could do a beauty and the beast rose in the glass case and have that as centerpieces maybe? Here are some links to some reception accessories. http://www.treasuredfavours.co.uk/wedding-favour-collections/wedding-favours-6.htm
You could use a single rose with a glass over it for the centerpiece and it wouldnt be that expensive either. I would post a picture of what I am thinking of, but I am not quite sure how. Everything will work out perfectly, and like everyone said you don't need a theme, your colors could be your theme, its your wedding you can make it however you want it!!:cool1:

My wedding colors are red and black. Ariel's is decorated in blues, greens and aquas. I want my table cloths to be a long black table cloth underneath and then a shorter red table cloth on top. My problem is I feel that all those colors are going to clash. Not to mention I have no theme for my wedding. Every time I come up with something I think about the fish. We don't want to change our venue, and I'm not even sure you can. I just don't know what to do.
Can anyone help me with a theme?

I agree with everything everyone else has been saying about you not needing a theme. And that if you just select things you love and not worry about the overall look, it'll still be lovely. But I read your post shortly before I went to bed last night, so my mind was wandering through options as I fell asleep. So for what it's worth, I thought I'd share my sleepy thoughts...

The first thing that popped into my head for red & black is playing cards. Which led me to think of Alice in Wonderland, which could be a really fun Disney theme. One that's not mickey/minnie. And then you've got the red rose garden and the queen of hearts. Even one of those fun mad-hatter cakes, perhaps?

Another random thought I had was lady-bugs. I've never seen Ariel's in person, but maybe if you had a sort of "enchanted garden" theme, the colors wouldn't seem as much in conflict with the reds and blacks. I'm not a terribly artistic/creative person, though, so I have no idea how well that would work out. Like I said, these are totally random, sleepy ideas.

But... I see your point that the bigger issue is not so much the theme but the fear that red and black might clash with the colors of the room. I wonder whether it might help to switch to white tablecloths and limit the red/black to centerpieces, napkins, chargers, menus, etc.? That might help limit the potential for clashing.

Then again, your wedding planner or floral designer may know how to make everything work out perfectly. They do so, so many weddings that they may even have pictures from a red-and-black reception at Ariel's for you to look at. I was worried a bit about how well all the individual elements I selected during the planning session would look altogether. My WP assured me that they would and also said that if she comes across any weddings with similar colors/flowers, she'd send me pictures, just to put my mind at ease.

Well, I'm not sure how formal your wedding is, but the black and red makes me think of maybe doing a black-tie affair theme. As long as the wedding party is doing the tux and tie thing, I think that would work, even if the guests might be a little more casual (i.e., not wearing tuxes and formals).

Then, for any favors/small decorations, you could use any characters you wanted that you can find dressed in formal wear. I'm just thinking of having seen pictures and cartoons somewhere recently where they combined several of the princesses and princes in formalwear at a ball. And I know I've seen Mickey and Minnie and Donald and Daisy like that before. You might be able to find plush characters in formalwear, and you could use a different one for each table to make a centerpiece. And you could probably find confetti that's tuxes and gowns to put on the tables.

The real question is - what do you want to do with the theme? How do you want to tie it in? That might determine what theme is practical to use as an idea.

Maggie - no one has ever spoken more true of words! I am having my wedding at home and honeymooning in Disney. I can not tell you how many times my mom and aunts have told me "you have to this because of this". :sad2: Its so annoying. DF and I really wanted a small wedding that was all about he and I. Our HUGE family doesn't really allow for that us. We have to do the recieving line  and make sure we go to every table (our reception will have over 200 people at it) yadda, yadda, yadda. Its all about being PC. I envy all of your ability to have a DFTW! I would in a heart beat but don't have the stomach to listen to my whole family moan.

As it is I worry about who will say what about everything we do. Its wild!

OP - When you said red and black the first thing I thought of was a Mickey theme. I don't think you need to worry about what the venue looks like. I think people will see them (the theme and the hall) as two seperate things. You will notice it because its your day and you will notice everything. Maybe a new venue would be a great idea - but if not then I think that you can definitely make it work! If you need any help with ideas etc. just come here. There are some awesome people who have helped me tons in just the few weeks since I discovered this area of the dis. We will all be there for you and we all will look forward to pics of your BEAUTIFUL day!

Okay, I'm de-lurking here....I was just browsing the boards and saw your post.
Your colors sound wonderful and it seems like you really want to use Aerials.
"When You Wish Upon A Star" Red and Black with Silver/Star Accents??? Does Aerials have any starfish decor?
I'm sure you'll have a wonderful day!

i agree with everyone else about not needing a theme, i did not have a disney wedding, but a huge new orleans one with over 250 people, and a LOT to worry about..so many little details! I freaked out for days about table decorations, and guess what...at the reception...I didn't even take one look at them! lol. The day is going to be such a whirlwiind the little thigns you once thought were so important really are not anymore, so don't stress! I don't think anyone is going to say "oh my gosh, look how awful the color scheme is" b/c everyone is going to be looking at you! i think red and black is beautiful together and anything you do will look great. mt colors were turquoise blue and brown, and when i told people they would give me a funny look, but i didn't care!

in teh gradn scheme of your wedding, the floor clashing with the tablecloths is not biggie. plus I think it will look fine in the first place!
