Hi, I have never been here before, but am hoping for some help. I need to loose at least 100 lbs, probably more. I know how, weight watchers is the only thing that works for me, but I cannot make myself start. I get up every day and think that today is the day, but have blown it by 11 am. I am a single mom to my daughter (9 next week) and its really unfair to her how much of her life I miss out on being this heavy. I don't know where to find the willpower or determination to get myself started and to stick with it. I have had some success several times with weight watchers, however, I will loose weight for a couple of months, and all of a sudden, something makes me stop counting points and before I know it am eating everything in sight again. I am an emotional eater, sad, happy, tired, bored you name it and I want to eat for some reason. Any and all help and prayers are appreciated! How do some of you find the drive to keep trying? Thanks for listening.

Kelly

Hi, Kelly - welcome to WISH!

I do understand where you're coming from. I have almost 200 pounds to lose and I am an emotional eater, also, so you are not alone. My sister was the one who convinced me to try this again, and the support I have found here on the WISH boards has been a huge help, also. I have found that keeping a journal is an effective tool for me (if you want to check it out, click the link in my signature). It helps me look back and see how far I have come. Even though I haven't lost a lot of weight over the winter, due to illness and a nasty back injury, I have been able to incorporate some exercise into my routine and am taking steps to work on my diet again to try to lose a little at a time. For me, finding joy in the small indicators of progress (I feel a little better, I have a little more energy, my clothes fit a little better) helps a great deal. If I look at all the weight I need to lose and how far I have to go, that discourages me and makes me think it's no use. But if I reflect on the positive changes I have made, it helps me feel good about what I have accomplished and gives me more motivation to keep trying. Also, if my motivation is a positive one (as in, I am getting healthier and therefore happier for myself, which affects my family positively) rather than a negative one (I am missing out on so much, I am too fat to do lots of things I want to do, etc.) I have a better result, both physically and emotionally. Don't get me wrong, I still have my down days, but for the most part this works well for me.

If you should want to start a journal of your own, click the link at the top of this page that says "WISH Journals" and start typing! You will find lots of support there. You can do this, one small step at a time - best wishes on your new journey to getting healthy!

Welcome to WISH!

You CAN do this!

Making a lifestyle change is challenging for sure. Tell yourself every day YOU want this and you CAN do it!

There are several things I would offer to assist you in your successful journey. I will start out with a few:

**Take small steps,
make daily goals and don't make these goals ones of denial. List them as successful achievements.
**record everything you eat, everything.
**Join in on any of the threads that would help keep you moving and making healthy choices.
**find the FUN in your journey.

You can do this!

When I started, I had about 84 lbs to lose to get to my personal goal. I've adjusted that now to lose more, but I am still at least 20 lbs away.

I am now down 65 of those original 84, but find the struggle a daily one.

The only advice I can give you is look at your daughter...

What is YOUR lifestyle teaching her?

Do you want her to grow up making the same choices you did?

What would you do for her? What would you sacrifice?

Why not the BAD foods?

The reasons above are some of the MAIN reasons I started my weight loss journey. My DD was overweight at the tender age of 12 (she was in a size 13/14). She's 15 now and a size 8/10. She's still about 5-10 lbs over her "ideal" weight, but she looks good and feels good.

Of course, I feel so much different, too, but SHE has been my primary motivation. When she sees me make better choices, she makes better choices. When I feel like eating a whole bag of cookies, I go to her room and look at her... If she's not there, I look at her room/closet and see a happy healthy young woman who is learning HOW to be a 'Normal' person.

You will never teach her ANYTHING if you don't learn it yourself.

Ms. H--I love what you just said! Wonderful advice!

For me, I exercise...as in...A LOT! :rotfl2: I went this route not only because it is healthy, but because I was afraid of losing motivation dealing with just my food. Exercise is ADDICTIVE, we know this--right? So, if you can make yourself stick to a plan for 21 days (no, you don't have to exercise each day...but set a goal of 4x/week or something).

It takes 21 days to form a habit. So, start forming healthy habits one week at a time! GOOD LUCK! You can do this!
