My Disney vacation is a few weeks away and now I am feeling very depressed considering my husbands job situation with ATA. My husband has lived his whole life to a Captain on a 757 and beyond financially, I have no idea what we would do if he loses his job....

We made the decision today to proceed with out trip since it is already paid for and ds is looking forward so much to the trip. Unfortunately, when we decided to take this trip we invited ds's friend along and offered to completely pay for everything. Now, that is a problem since we are trying to conserve. I know his mother couldn't afford to pay for him so explaining the situation is not an option.

Most likely, we will dodge a bullet and America West will buy ATA and dh will still have a job. As of now, AirTran has not offered to take ATA's pilots and nothing certain has been decided with America West. This is just a really scary time for us so I hope all of you can keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you to all of you who continue to fly ATA, we need your business!

Had the same situation last November. We went and had our best trip ever. Unemployed, but wouldn't trade those memories for our money back if I could.

So sorry about your situation! I think since you already told ds's friend he is invited and that you'll pay for everything, you need to make good on this. How can you ever uninvite a kid to Disney?? Maybe the parents will offer some assistance, and if they do, I'd quickly accept it with a smile.

We just got back a week ago and took our usual airline, ATA , and I can't tell you how sorry I am they went belly-up!

Keep in mind that things have a way of working out.....

I am so sorry for you. My father is a pilot and we have been through this I think my father has worked for every Airline that has gone under but things have always worked out. My thoughts and prayers are with you. My advice to you would be go on your trip and enjoy some family time and forget about try to forget about your worries for a short time if you can. Good Luck.

We did the same thing....DH lost his job in June and we went to WDW in September. Now I won't lie to you....he ended up being out of work longer than we expected but I have never once regreted going. It was the best most relaxing vacation we have ever taken....and the last one without children....I was 32 weeks when we went and now my sweet baby girl is turning 1 on Monday.

Go ahead and enjoy your trip, youv'e earned it. If he has a much as experience as you seem to let on, I believe he would have no trouble at all finding other work if he is let go. And ATA is not going out of business totally, just cutting back, he will probably keep his job anyway. Good luck and have a great time in WDW.

Best wishes to you.
I have a friend whose son is also a pilot with ATA.

skychica, don't worry, I think everything will work out just fine.

I think there will be a change of heart with AirTran. I believe they will need to have our pilots fly our aircraft on their routes. I do not seem to think it will be over for us that quickly... If at all...

I think you should concentrate on having a wonderful time at Disney World and trust in the fact that everything will work out...

Did I ever tell you that I firmly believe that when one door closes, another opens???
