My laptop has gone SPLOINK! I sit here at my office typing this while Jen slowly goes bananas at home :sad2: it (the laptop) starts up and goes to the windows screen then the little Cylon eyeball bar at the bottom just keeps going and going and going (like an Energizer bunny).Has anyone ever seen this? I have a warranty but but they will take it for WEEKS! :badpc:

Read the manual on how to get into safe mode. It is usualy something like hitting one of the F keys right at startup. Like F2 or F8 maybe F10 to get into an option page to start in safe mode. Safe mode will load minimal drivers so the computer will usualy start.
Then go to:
start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore

you will then have the option to choose a restore point which will return the software configuration back to the date you selected. Choose a date that is earlier than when you started having problems. Any data that has been entered after the restore point you pick is supposed to still be there.
If that works let me know, if not PM me and I will try to think of other options, like using the system recovery CD.

Thx It wont even go into safe mode.........I just get the "Cylon" eye.
I have the system recovery disc but it's not reading the drive.

do you get anything on the screen? I am not sure what the cylon eye is. I know what is was on the tv show.
If XP is trying and failing to boot from the hard drive then it may not run the cd drive. So we need to try and get to the BIOS settings and change the boot order to CD drive first so the recovery cd can help with corrupted files etc...

do you even see a cursor (the DOS _ ) blinking. Sometimes it only blinks once. You have to be hitting the button that gets you to the bios almost the same time you hit the start button. then keep tapping it... for about 30 seconds

If you copy and paste all this to your original thread we may get help that is more familiar with your computer.

It is a toshiba Sattelite that is 8 months old......

ALL Fixed!!! YAY!!!!

Ohmygoodness! I thought you meant that somebody actually broke your windows (at home!) I am glad it was not that and that you were able to fix whatever was broken! :thumbsup2
