And I don't know whether to be happy or jealous!

I went out to take the kitten her food this evening, and found a couple already seated by a car with a plate of dry food out for her (science diet, the "right" type), and her eating from them with them only 3 feet away! It took me almost a week to reach that level with her.

My first reaction was "wait a minute, that's *my* kitten!". But at the same time, haven't I been saying I needed to find a good home for her? And here was another couple who were both willing to take time out of their evening to make sure a stray outdoor kitten got food.

I sat down next to them and set down my food (mixture of moist and dry) and she came to it right away, close enough I could have touched her if she hadn't startled away. But she trusted all of us enough to come out and eat with 3 of us in a circle around her.

They asked what we were going to do with her, I said we didn't know yet and explained the problems with us keeping her even though we wanted to. They said they had one cat now and were looking at getting another from a shelter, but said if the one at the shelter fell through, they'd be interested in her.

I feel they'd give her a good home. They weren't put off by me saying we'd give her to a good home as long as they would keep her indoors, not declaw her, and realize she's feral and will take some time and patience to train to be gentle and loving, but based on the fact that she was coming out to eat with three of us there, I know she can be tamed. They also had the "right kind" of food -- the quality of food makes a difference in the health of the cat, and the food they had for their current cat was of good quality.

So, I've got their apartment number written down, and they've got mine -- they said they'd let me know if the deal on the other cat fell through, and I said I'd let them know when I caught her.

I don't know whether to hope their other deal falls through so this girl will get a good home with them, or if I want the deal to make it so the other cat they're looking at gets to leave the shelter and get a good home. Then we could try keeping her. Even though I shouldn't.

I'm such a mess tonight... don't know whether to be thankful and happy, or jealous and sad.

aren't you allergic? i think you should be happy for them and for the kitty. :)

Yes, that is the problem Hes -- this is exactly what I wanted for her. A good home with good people who would be patient, keep her indoors, not declaw her, and feed her good food and give her love. DH met this couple too and he felt the same thing about them I did -- they'd give her a good home. Probably even better than either DH's parents or DH's sister would.

What it comes down to is I've grown attached to her and don't want to give her up, even though giving her up would be best for my health, and for Blaze and Skye.

Aw Tammi.....have they picked out a cat from the shelter yet? I don't understand why rescuing her wouldn't be more important. She has less of a chance then the kitties in the shelter...unless of course like I said they already have one picked out. At least if she has a home there in your apts. you will know she is well taken care of...and your right, thats the right kind of cat food, but boy does it stink:D

Groosch Rajah....I haven't followed this whole 'saga'.....but....if thar's people able to 'connect' with that cat...it's a good thing! :)...
Mrs.G and I took in a feral cat...and he's become a really part of the family...granted it did take some time....I think yer should foucus on what's the 'best' arrangement fer the animal....be it in your house...or another....but in all cases....remember the love and affection you've show it...that counts! :)

Beth -- yes, they already are inquiring about one specific cat from the shelter.

GP -- I've been trying to catch this stray kitten for almost two weeks now. Built up a routine and bit of a trust relationship -- but apparently the trust relationship isn't with me but instead is with whoever brings a plate of food  ;)

And I know the best thing for her is to give her a good home. If I hadn't grown attached to her, it would be no question -- she'd be going to them. But I have grown attached to her. I just have to be willing to let go if they're able to take her.

I'm so sorry Tammi. :( It doesn't take long to get attached, does it? I bet it will all work out for the best, whatever that might be. (((hugs)))

Head says "best" would be for her to find a home with this other couple and for us to wait until DH and I are in the house before we look for a third cat, and see if we can get on a waiting list for a calico or torbie/tortie girl from one of a list of good breeders.

Heart says the girl comes home with me. Of course, heart doesn't care if that would leave me itching, sneezing, and having breathing problems on occasion.
