Somebody trying to SCAM for a GAD voucher!

I am a director at a non-profit org. We just held an event last weekend with over 100 volunteers. I took very careful attendance records of the volunteers in attendance....And I had a girl email me and say "she arrived late and didnt check in with me, but she was there."

I asked her to describe what room she worked in and to describe her project in detail. Her reply was very vague. She didnt say which room. And, she just said she worked on sanding and painting furniture (which is what it said in our online listing). Why such a vague response...why not I painted a bookcase green??

I asked her to respond to specific questions that I sent her and said she needed to call me immediately to get this cleared up. I will be very surprised if she does call.

Anyone else deal with something like this? I just have a very bad vibe on this. I went from room to room specifically announcing names of people who didnt get checked in. I dont think there's any way I could have missed her!

YUCK INDEED!! Sadly, I'm not surprised that there will be some scummy people out there that try and capitalize on the program without actually volunteering.

Talk about bad karma!

If she didn't properly check in at the event, it doesn't matter whether she was there or not. She should have made sure she checked in.

I just got back from volunteering for a local Mission and the director told me there were many people who did not show up (Give A Day Program) and she thought they would try to do what you stated above!!!

As I told her I'm so happy for this program because I was a little intimidated to volunteer (i know weird) but now I can't wait for the next opportunity!!!

lol...I would have made something up to check her..something that wasn't actually done - like "oh, you were late..then they must have sent you to the room where they were sanding all the rocking chairs..that's the last room to fill up..is that what you were doing?"

The coordinator at our event asked 3 or 4 times throughout the volunteering time to make sure everyone checked in (even at the very end he asked the group again). About a dozen people who signed up did NOT attend. Which was also sad because that could've been spots for people to sign up who could have attended. And this was a great volunteer event for kids 6 and up (every family there had children under 10).

I can't believe someone would try to lie about it... that is just very sad and so wrong. But people don't surprise me anymore.
