Hello,

So just when I thought I had it all figured out. Now back to the start.

The saga begins here: My husband and I are flying in from England from Jan 4 - 12, 2006. We will be running, crawling and skipping the WDW Marathon.

My first instinct was to stay at the YC. So I started pricing it all and realized that WDW ain't cheap (neither am I, but still surprised nonetheless). We have a quote from Virgin and British Airways and that are relatively the same. For about $3900 (£2238) I can get two flights and 8 nights standard room at the YC. The flights are about $1500 making the room $2400 (about $300) per night. Really wondering if the YC is worth that.

So, last night my Disney guru and good friend (AKA vettechick99 around these parts) called CRO and got some fine rates at WL. She suggested it was better suited for that time of year. She was told WL is about $205 per night. Sitting in front of fire always sounds appealing to me.

I also got a quote from Virgin for a savannah room at AKL. There was not much savings (about $50 per night less).

The pricing is not that big of a difference to make the decision for me. Anyway, in a long winded way. What would you choose? Does the time of year/month ever dictate where you stay?

After going back and forth on many resorts we finally bookede WL for the marathon weekend. One of the reasons I liked WL (besides its wintry feel with the fireplace and sleigh rides) was that my children, my in-laws and myself, could take the boat over to the Contemporary and walk to MK to see DH run through the MK and then get on the monorail to TTC and switch to Epcot monorail to see him finish. We originally were going to go with the YC and then I found out the gateway (YC/BC) entrance wouldn't open until regular time so we would have to bus where we wanted to go. Then I thought, well if I have to take a bus anyway I might as well stay at a moderate. The only moderate that appealed to DH was Coronado SPrings and it was already full for the marathon weekend. So we booked WL, Woods View (hoping to upgrade to courtyard view if good AP rates come out) for January 6-11th. Maybe we'll see you there.

Hi Robyn! Have you stayed at the WL before? What's this about sleigh rides ;-) Sounds fun!

No, we always stay at the GF. I wanted to try something different since this is our first winter trip. WL just had that "wintry" feel to me. We haven't done the sleigh ride yet but I remembered other posters who went last winter saying it was a lot of fun. We're doing the carriage ride in July, so I'm guessing its somewhat similar to that, I'll have to find out.

Hi Robyn,

You mentioned the gateway (YC/BC) entrance will not be open until regular time - I am Disney illiterate...what does that mean for DH and me on race morning? Thanks!

the international gateway is on the YC/BC side into Epcot, the countries. the countries open later at 11:00am and regular Epcot opens at 9:00am or the extra hours of 8:00am on special days...but it is from my expericance that I always get to go thru the gateway, they just rope off the countries. I never have taken a bus to get inot epcot on the early days.

as for were to stay..YC I think is the BEST resort, my favorite...but if money is an issue, coming from England and all can be pricey...WL is great also. I can post some pictures for you, I just stayed there this week, and the BC.

I was told that the International Gateway entrance (near YC) would not be open until Epcot opens up which would be too late to watch the marathon begin. That's why we switched to WL. Next summer though we're going to try and venture some time away from GF and do a few days at YC because it looks great.

Both are great. If you're a girl with an eye for a bargain then go for the WL. YC is closer to more Night life, which is nice without kids, though. You really cant go wrong.
