I'm sure most of you moms have been down this road before - much the same as I was years ago..

It's 5 minutes before the school bus is due to arrive and your little one pipes up and says, "Mom - I need to bring in 37 cupcakes today.. Lemon-flavored with cream cheese frosting and purple sprinkles.." OR, "Mom, I have to bring in 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies today and they can't be store bought.."

Well - I guess some things never change.. My granddaughter nailed me this morning.. Five minutes before the bus is due to arrive and she comes racing upstairs to my room and says, "Grandma, can you sew my Halloween costume for me? I ripped it at the party yesterday and I have to bring it in for our school party today!!!"

"Sure..no problem.. As soon as I figure out which one of these 27 totes my sewing kit is in.."

My DD is unfamiliar with the term "needle and thread" so there was no point in asking her if she had one - LOL - and I haven't finished unpacking yet - so the pressure was on..

Found the sewing kit - got the costume repaired - and she pranced out on to the bus...

Yup - I guess "some things never change...."

Grandma to the rescue. Having school age kids myself, it happens at least once a week. I see now this could go on forever. Thanks

LOL.. But is it really too much to ask that a thirty-something mom at least have a needle and thread on hand somewhere - even if she doesn't know what to do with it?

You and my Mother would get along well
I am 34 and anytime my kids need something sewed they know to call my mom
the only needle i could lay my hands on right now is the one stuck in the candle that i used to take a splinter out of my hand last weekend
and thread?????????

That is not an unreasonable request. I have a needle and thread handy and my motto is, if it needs to be repaired throw it out and buy new.

Okay - now see? That's something I could work with.. Give me the needle and if you have some dental floss or fishing line laying around you would be amazed what I could do!
