Some things are ok to throw out instead of regifting.

The regifting thread made me think of something from this weekend. My mom had this purse size 1/2 used bottle of some hair spray she found while cleaning out her closest. She's up there in age and in the getting rid of things phase of her life even though she's not there yet.

Anyway, she tried to give it to me. Nope I don't need it. Everything comes with a sales pitch from her. So she was going to try to give it to my college age niece who has super straight hair and doesn't use hairspray. Told her she wouldn't want it either.

Just toss it. Really its ok. Nope, she was going to drop it off at the thrift shop.

Now, I'm all for recycling. Or seeing if someone has use for an older appliance or electronics item I might have. But not a 1/2 of a purse size bottle of OLD hairspray.

Seems she can't come over without a collection of junky little items she's trying to find someone to take.

There comes a time when trying to find an item a new home or owner just isn't worth the trouble.

I'm like your Mom and have a really hard time throwing stuff out that might be someone else's treasure so I donate almost everything. i have a bag I keep in the garage that I fill over time and every so often I drop everything in it off and get myself a tax receipt

My Dh is like you and my bag of stuff irritates him. I always assume our different perspectives come from me having grown up poor and his family being firmly middle class. For me it's a conscience thing so DHleaves my bag of donations alone.

Maybe you could "take it" and then dispose of it at a later date.

Now why didn't I think of that. That might just start happening. And if it makes her start clearing her clutter faster, that's not a bad thing either.

I do that too. I don't try shopping it to all my friends first though.
