1) Charge a small amount of cancellation fee within 24 hours . like $10-$20, esp popular restaurants.

2) No double booking.

3) Reserve spots for hotel guests and walk ups.

4) Send auto emails to remind reservation a week ahead.

Right now it's a lock up. you have to book sth for your back up because you can't get places you like. That results in a lot of cancellation and no show.

If double booking is not allowed and fee is charged, I'm pretty sure everyone can get the restaurants they want.

Absolutely hate the idea of a cancelation fee.

What happens if my child gets sick in the park that day? Do I get punished because it is within that 24 hour period or is it just my luck to suck it up and pay that? NOPE not a good idea.

I know and understand how frustrating it is to get adrs and then read people posting how they abuse the system by double booking, but that is not the answer.

What is the answer? I have no idea but not a cancelation fee.

They do charge for cancellations at certain popular restaurants, such as CRT and Akershus. Perhaps they could extend it though. I don't think they should hold spots for walkups and all though; why should those of us who plan ahead have less chance of getting a ressie because some people are bad planners or don't want to plan? As far as double bookings go, technically they AREN'T allowed and can be cancelled...but if someone were to make then under a different name (which I would never do, but others might), then there is really nothing they can do about it. And auto emails? They already do that when you make the ressie. After that you can check them online at any time or at the concierge desk on arrival.

I highly recommend that you let Disney know how you feel. If their restaurants are truly empty due to this they will certainly take notice and find ways to combat having half full restaurants.

Unfortunately this is one of about half a dozen threads that were started on this topic in the past week. All of the others were closed, so this one is going to be closed as well.

For anyone who is having trouble making a reservation, feel free to share your ideas on how to fix the system with Disney, and subscribe to the Canceled ADR thread for the month that you're looking for reservations in. Lots of DIS'ers are getting hooked up in those threads. Hopefully you can get hooked up as well.
