Some questions on western magic excursions

We are trying to decide which excursions and whether to do them ourselves or thru DCL on our 8/2 western. in key west, are the beaches nice? We thought about the trolley that points out 100 sites; does that include a beach? How far to the trolley from the ship and can you do it yourself? What is cost if you do it yourself? Do you need to reserve in advance if not going thru DCL?

Has anyone done the kayaking on Cozumel or the Fury catamaran sail, snorkel & beach party? What were they like? Would you recommend them? How far is Sally's mini golf from the cruise dock? Can you walk there?

Thanks for your help. Barb

We did the DCL sponsored trolley excursion. It worked well for our family of 8 ranging from 2 to 82. Very informative! They do point out a beach but on this excursion you can't get on and off the trolley. You could book this yourself in Key West. The trolleys are a short walk from the ship.

Sorry I can't help with the other excursion. Have a good trip!

The trolley is great...you can do it yourself...it runs quite often all through the day. Gives you a great overview of Key West in a very short period of time.

Try this site - http://keywest.com/sightseeing.htm

You can page down to the Trolly link where you can purchase your tickets. You will receive the tickets in the mail along with a map of Key West showing the route.
You can get on and off of the trolly but not the Conch Train. Beware - NO AC. They will give you a nice hand held fan to use.
WE rode the trolley down to the Southern Most Point and then walked back up Duvall St. Wish we hadn't. It was so hot.

We enjoyed Key West a lot and plan to do another Western next year. Don't miss the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Sq. It is right there where the ship docks.

Have a great trip.

Russ, thanks for the link. Does the trolley go on duvall st.? There were several stops like Margaritaville and Kelly's, etc. that I wanted to see. Barb

As I said we go off and walked up Duvall to Mallory Sq.. We had lunch at Margaritaville and then went to Hog's Breath and some other local sites. You will get the map and it shows the trolly route and all stops. We would do it again but pick a stop closer to Mallory before starting to walk.
I just checked and one of the last stops is Truman and Duvall St. intersection. That should do it for you.

We did the kayak tour last year and had a pretty good time....you take a 45min bus ride to the park where the kayak tour begins(you should definitely bring bug spray). You will make a couple of stops on the way, one being at an old lighthouse which you can climb (about 150 steps) to the top to get a spectacular view of the beach. You will be in a 2 person kayak and paddle through the mangroves there until you get to the beach at which time you be given something drink along with some pastries and fresh fruits. Once done, you'll kayak back to the bus and then back to the ship, the entire excursion took about 3-4 hours.

Was the kayak trip fun? Worth it?

I have a few questions as well. We're thinking of doing a taxi tour of Grand Caymen to visit.....Hell, 7 mile beach, turtle farm and stingray city. Can this be done like this? Is it better to take the Disney excursion? Any advice would be welcome. Thx.

If you enjoy a little work paddling, I thought the kayak was a good excursion.

We did the Stingray City and Snorkel which was through Disney and had a great time, I'm not sure what deal would be if you go outside Disney.

We did the Disney excursion in Cayman that included Hell, the Turtle Farm and Stingray City. We had a great time and got back to port with plenty of time to shop.

I've heard others have had great luck with Captain Bryans and Captain Marvins.

You need to go with some type of organized group for Stingray City because Stingray City is in reality a sand bar about a 1/2 hour out from shore. You go out by boat, snorkel and interact with the stingrays (the boat captain will usually have food for them and will help you hold them, take pictures, etc.) Not really something you can do on your own.

The minigolf is within walking distance of your pier here in Cozumel. Walk north along the waterfront (north means the water is on your left) about 4 blocks until your get to a HUGE flagpole. Put your back to the ocean and walk directly inland 3 blocks.
