We are meeting my parents at WDW 12/3-12/5. Later this month my dad is having surgery on his foot and his doctor doesn't want him walking all over WDW and wants him in an ECV. We are all planning to stay at WL and are planning to hit MGM. epcot and MK (for MVMCP) plus have meals at resort restaurants.

My questions are:

Does the boat from WL to MK allow ECV?
We usually drive to the parks instead of WDW buses, how heavy are ECVs and can they fit in the trunk of a car?
If they rent an ECV, can they pick it up before they check into the WL?
Is there a link to a site for steering tips?

If the water level is too low in the lake, you CANNOT board the WL-MK boat. The alternative is the bus.

Most rentable ECVs have their heaviest part at just around 30 pounds. The ECV's disassemble (into something like 5 pieces) and can be put in the trunk of a reasonable-sized car (assuming you're not laden with other gear). It takes about 5 minutes to assemble/disassemble.

Depending on who you rent from, you don't have to go ANYWHERE to pick it up. Delivery/pickup is included in the price of rental. Some companies will drop them at the bell stand prior to your arrival, just check with the bell captain when you get to hotel, they get it for you, and off you go. Other companies will deliver them to YOU (you call on arrival and they come for a visit). The advantage is they will show you how to take it apart, give a bit of a steering lesson, and such . (of course, you have to budget TIME to meet in this scenario).

Although I frequently drive to Disney, once there and using an ECV, I tend to use Disney transportation (assuming I'm staying onsite). It's pretty efficient.

Enjoy!

Happy wheeling!
