Hiya Everyone :goodvibes

I am so excited to be heading back to WDW again in September :cool1:

It's just myself and my fiancé going. Now, here's the problem:

I think the Turtle Talk exhibit sounds a lot of fun and my DFi loves Crush and I love Dory so with the new addition of her I bet we'd love it! BUT!!

I have never been down in Living Seas as I'm claustrophobic and can't stand the idea of the elevators that take you down (sorry, forgot the name). I *might* be ok once down there for a short while (enough to see TT) but would need another way of getting down (ie stairs :)), is there one?

Also, and this is where it gets worse (LOL) I'm selacophobic. I'm terrified of sharks (another reason I've not been down there). I know about the big Bruce head and so long as I didn't suddenly round a corner and see it then he shouldn't cause me *too* much of a problem but I'm petrified of the idea of coming across pictures of real life sharks etc (honest they set me off on a panic attack).

So.... any thoughts? advice? am I truly just best off avoiding the whole thing?

Thanks for any help :)
Gaspodé

ETA. My shark phobia is so serious that when watching Finding Nemo we have to skip all bits with Bruce and friends. Thank goodness for DVD chapters ;)

Well I havent been down there in like a year so I really am not sure about all of that. If I was you I might just skip it all together. You wouldnt want to chance a panic attack or anything unfun while at Disney. ALso if its really that important maybe DF can go down and take a quick look and let you know what he thinks. Possibly other people on the board can comment about whether there are alot of shark things or if there are stairs. :cool1: Have a great trip.. I ll be ther ein sept too!!!!

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly all shark pictures etc.. were in the same room as the Bruce head. Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. If you just wanted to do TT then you could easily avoid that room.

Hope that helps

Thanks both for the advice! It would be great if all the shark stuff was hidden away 'inside' Bruce :)

When we went to San Fransisco I wouldn't go in the aquarium so we decided to visit the planetarium instead (thought I would be safe there!!) but no!! there were two large shark heads on the wall above the entrance to the 'star room' (or whatever its called) :( I wasn't happy about that at all!!

Sending my DFi down first is a good idea but I don't know how long it takes?

Thanks again,
Gaspodé

Spoiler about the elevators........

Run your mouse over the text below
You really don't descend. It is all an illusion. You just walk out the other side. No need for stairs.

They hydrolators arent really elevators at all. They only simulate the movement of an elevator. The last timei was there a toddlers woundt go near them and i think they were taken in another way. Depending on the timeing even if he doesnt sit for the pre show movie it could take a while for your DF to get into Seabase Alpha look around and get out again.

Safetymom - So you aren't even going underground?? (cos' that part bothers me too but I just figured I could cope with that long enough to see TT so long as I didn't have to do the elevator bit)?

Thanks!!

Hmm this is very interesting and sounds like I might cope then! But.... any sharks in the preshow or anything?

(Thankfully I now know at what point to close my eyes on Ellens Energy Adventure ;))

Cya,

You can also skip the preshow. They will announce when you are in the room which way to go.

I sent you a PM Gaspode.

Mjmcca, you should put a spoiler alert or put the text in white. Most people don't want to know the "secrets" of the ride without being warned first.

Gaspode,

it's all an illusion... highlight text below:

you get in the elevator, and it rumbles and you see bubbles going in the walls, but you're not going anywhere. You're still at ground level.

when you exit the hydrolators you come into a big room. There is one room where all Bruce & the Gang are in, so you could easily not go in there. Turtle Talk with Crush is on the other side of the room from Bruce so you won't even be near that area and you won't see him at all when you're in line from Crush. After you're done there, the exit is another hydrolator and you go right to the outside.

I think your bigger concern is the queueing area. When you enter the queue, it's a bit dark in there and the lines are like a maze back and forth. They don't open the doors for a while. Are you going to be OK in there?

Firstly, just a sorry that this thread has spoilers now... I really appreciate ppl letting me in on this stuff tho! It's a great help! I'll edit the title to warn others :)

Oogieboogie - Thanks for the info about the separate rooms. Any idea if Bruce pops up in the TT exhibit (ie on screen).... I guess I'll need to ask that again after Dory is put in just incase Bruce is too!

I appreciate your concern about me in the queuing area :goodvibes ... to be honest I think I'll be okay, so long as it isn't completely dark and I can see an escape route! That's why I get paniced underground you see, the idea of 'no way out'.

Again, thank you all, its really heartening to have ppl take me seriously and offer kind help regarding my phobias (even tho they are mostly irrational LOL).

Best Wishes,
Gaspodé

Bruce doesn't show up the TTWC show. It's very funny but no scary parts.

Great stuff!

I look forward to doing this then I think..... oooh and seeing the clown fish :)

When we were there at Christmas, there was a huge line to get in the Living Seas. We were standing there debating about going in (all we wanted to see was Turtle Talk) and a CM overheard us. Bless his heart, he took us in the exit so we wouldn't have to go through the pre-show.

Perhaps if you explained your problem to a CM, they could take you in through the exit.

I wasnt aware that this was a spoiler it is a well known fact. There is was a court case about it. Someone claimed that the "elevators" in the living seas caused her damage to her ears because of the "change in pressure" . They lost the case when Disney showed it doesnt more at all. I think it is also meantioned in many of the guide books. I read in the offical guide that the hydrolators acutally descend only about 1/4 inch.
