JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Three Florida children
bought tickets with baby-sitting money and
flew to Nashville, Tenn., on Southwest
Airlines — unbeknownst to their parents.

Fifteen-year-old Bridget Brown had $700
saved and asked a 13-year-old friend where
he wanted to go.

The friend, Bobby Nolan III, suggested
Nashville.

Together with Brown's 11-year-old brother,
the three took a taxicab to Jacksonville
International Airport and bought three
tickets at the counter. The children say no
one asked them for identification.

They called their parents from Nashville and
immediately flew home.

Southwest Airlines says the company's minor
policy covers children ages five through 11
traveling alone, and that the 11-year-old in
this case was accompanied by two older
companions.

They just flew there and came back? :confused3 That's a lot of money to waste for an afternoon in a plane. But then again, I'm cheap. :goodvibes

Uhhh..?

Well, at least they're safe!

I hope the airline gave them their money back. They really shouldn't let kids that age buy tickets on their own. How much trouble is that agent getting into ???

Why did the 15 year old have $700 just sitting around?

And yea, she'd be grounded for stinkin ever!

Didn't they need some sort of identification to get through security?

Shoot - if I was going to spend all that money I at least would have spent the day checking out the town - LOL..

Glad they're safe - although probably grounded for the next 10 years..;)

Minors dont need ID.

Supposedly on an interview with the Today show, she said that they were going to try and go to Dollywood but once they got there they found out it was 4 hours from Nashville, so the 13 yr old boy called his dad and confessed.

My child would be grounded for life!!!!!!

Guess I was confused by the above - where it states that the SW minor policy is 5 through 11..:)

I doubt I would ground my kids over this. I think the whole thing is hilarious. I would be having some conversations about personal safety though.

I had lots of money as a teen. I did lots of babysitting and then worked from 15 on. I put a lot in the bank but I had that kind of cash. Wish I had that kind if disposable income now:lmao:

Two different things. Southwest charges for a minor traveling alone if they are 11 or under and unaccompanied.

Needing ID is a TSA thing, and it's only for adults, as in people over 18. Children under 16 wouldn't even have ID unless they had a passport. :goodvibes

I am thinking the same thing. After I stopped laughing I would point out that she worked pretty hard to earn that money and it is all gone-and I sure wouldn't give her money for going to the movies, etc. for quite a while.

I believe SW reimbursed the family.

I would have turned down that money. If my kid was stupid enough to do this, she should paid the consequences of not having that money any longer.

Absolutely.

Also, why is Southwest to blame exactly? The kids took a joyride in the plane-they should be responsible for the tickets.

I don't think they are to blame. I think they just wanted to get some "goodwill" in the news.

You are probably right, particularly after the bumping the "skinny" woman story last month.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but if minors don't need ID, why do we keep hearing about young kids who mistakenly get put on the no fly list? Don't these kids get checked for birth certificates at least?
