Some more tent questions......

I keep seeing where people say to bring a tarp to protect the floor of the tent. Is this supposed to be used as a ground cloth or inside the tent? I can't tell from what I've read.

Also, do you think a dome or a cabin tent is better?

I would like to know about the tarp thing also. I read another post that said the one thing you want in a tent is you want to be able to stand up in it. I considered that when I bought a tent the other day. I bought a cabin tent.

Normally you put them under the tent, it keeps ground wather from coming into direct contact with the bottom of your tent. Make sure to fold them under on the sides and not have them stick out so that the water doesn't hit the top of them.

If you put a tarp inside, it's mainly to keep it all nice and clean. It's easier just to take the tarp out and shake it then to have to sweep every square inch of the tent.

I don't use tarps, however, I purchase a roll of 6 mil painters plastic and cut the sheets to fit exactly.

Also at Ft. Wilderness, I found that also putting a sheet of the very thin painters plastic sheets under everything and then disposing at the end of the trip keeps less of the ucky sand from coming home with me.

That is exactly what we need under the rug for our screen room next time!

We always used exact fitting tarps or a plastic sheet under our tent, but it's a good idea to have one on the inside too!

I like the tents that have a vestible before the main entrance so you have a place to leave your shoes.

This is an excellent tip I learned from Carol years ago. We've done it everytime except this last trip, left the darn things at home so we used a spare tarp instead....oh how I missed the painter's plastic. The tarp was a mess to clean. Yes, I second the Painter's Plastic.

Where do you buy your rolls of plastic? When I've bought plastic for painting in the past, I've only seen the bags of thin stuff, are you getting it somewhere like Lowe's instead of a Paint Supply place (where I'm guessing it would cost more)? Thanks.

I usually find it at Home Depot, Lowe's or Wal-Mart for $10 - $12 per roll

I get it. Is the plastic easy to handle? Not bunching up? Also, kimluvs.....where did you get the FW logos? I want to make t-shirts for the boys. This is their first real camping trip - They are getting the tents for Christmas, and part of their present is celebrating the New Year 1/1-1/3 at FW.

No, the thicker plastic does not bunch up at all.

I know you want to surprise the boys with the tents for Christmas, but watch the weather for that week between Christmas and when you leave, cause you will need to set up their new tents in the backyard before you leave and waterproof them with seam sealer and fabric protectant. If you can find a way to do that before Christmas and still surprise them it might be a good idea. (Also make sure everything is there and they can set up correctly). Nothing worse for a kid getting a new gift and something is broken and has to be exchanged.

Right click the logos and save them to your computer. I really love them.
