Some more random ADR questions....

I was reading through some different posts & saw it mentioned that people will book various ADRs for the same time just in case they happen to be in one place instead of another. Can this be true?

When I was booking ADRs online for a previous trip, I acidentally put in the wrong time & it said something about not being able to book 2 places for the same time. I map out our days very carefully, so I have no intention of booking more than one place at a time (I could never keep that all straight), but I was curious about what I was reading.

Also, I am going to be making ressies for my family plus my mom & her fiance (6 of us total). There may be a time or 2 when my mom is not up for meeting us at the restaurant (she has MS & never knows how she will feel from day to day, hour to hour). Will it be a problem to show up & tell them that there will only be 4 of us instead of 6?

It is never an issue to show up with LESS people than on the adr. So no worries there.

Next, yes some people double book themselves as you asked. This has been a problem that WDW is aware of and is putting steps in to correct it.

Last few months people that do this have reported both the adrs being canceled without their knowledge.
WDW has CM's going thru and if they see this they are to terminate both ressies.

Now with the recent upgrades to the reservation system I don't know if they have places something in the system that won't allow it or cancel them automatically.....

But it isn't worth taking a chance.

It certainly is true. And according to another recent thread, it's not just the many individuals doing this. Apparently some travel agents also do this as a general practice for their clients - book them for multiple places each night so they have a desirable ADR for whatever part of the World they happen to be at for any given day. It is a huge problem that IMO Disney doesn't adequately address. Their tactic is just to overbook each restaurant based on an assumed no-show rate.

The system does not automatically cancel duplicate timed reservations. If you are booking online, it will warn you that you have them but if you look closely at the message that comes up, it will give you the option to cancel one or keep them both. If such reservations have been cancelled without notice, it has been at the behest of a cast member, some of whom apparently take it upon themselves to clear duplicate reservations. There is no indication that it is an official Disney policy for cast members to clear duplicate reservations whenever they see them, or that Disney has cast members devoted to just this purpose.

There is no penalty for failing to appear for your ADR at most WDW restaurants.
