Some info about renting points

We're waiting to close on OKW and we want to take a vacation in January... there's not much left open so we're looking to rent points this year instead of waiting for our close and taking a chance on not getting to go at all.
So my question to you all...
What is "typical" as far as payment on renting points... do you usually pay upon confirmation of the reservation?... 30 days prior to scheduled trip?
From what I've read, they DVC owner could take our money and cancel the reseravation if they so choose... which makes me a little nervous, but not too many options... we really want to stay at our new home.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There really isn't a typical - a lot of members ask for half up front and half 60 days out (usually a number greater than 30 - at 30 their risk really goes up), I'd expect some members looking at a January timeframe might ask you to pay in full up front.

Yes, they could cancel your reservation, it doesn't happen very often that renters get scammed though. Read all the stickies. Most importantly, gain a comfort level with the person you are dealing from.

The other option would be to book OKW through CRO. CRO has had some great deals on OKW in the past during slow times of year.
