Some DL questions

Hi,

My husband and I were married at WDW and have spent countless days there over the past five years. Next year we are planning to go to Disneyland for a few days before a cruise. Having never been there we have a few questions and would appreciate some help.

Could anyone tell me when the holiday version of the Haunted Mansion generally begins each year?

Can anyone who has purchased one of the Disneyland meal plans provide any details/recommendations? From what I have those plans differ greatly from the WDW (i.e. the Grand Plan) so any information would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, can anyone provide me with any information regarding internet access at the Grand Californian? I am wondering if they have wireless internet that I can access with my laptop.

Thank you!

I don't know exactly when the HM transforms. I think it is around Halloween - maybe just before Halloween. It was already transformed the second week of Nov in 2002 when we were there.

Haunted Mansioin Holiday usually opens the first Saturday of October and reverts to it's normal self after the first week of January.

According to the Disney website, the HM will close on Jan. 5, 2004 to kick out Jack and his ghoulish buddies (that means Oogie, too). The original is slated to be back by Jan 20

They will start holiday removal at Small world on Jan. 11, 2004 and it is scheduled to reopen on Jan 26, at which time Indiana Jones and PDJ will go down for refurbishment.

All of this info was found by clicking on "Today's Schedule" at the DL website. It helps when planning trips. It would be very disapppointing to spend a fortune on a DL vacation when your favorite ride is not even running. Horrors!!

Hope this helps;)

Yes, I think the first public day for the HM holiday overlay is the 1st Saturday in October. The couple of days preceding the public opening, there are special ticketed events where you can pay for behind-the-scenes type stuff.

I think the general consensus is that the packages at DL are not as great a value as at WDW. There generally isn't as large a selection of restaurants at DL on the package plan, and the savings is not too many $$.

Don't know if there is WiFi at the Grand Californian, but you might want to call Guest Services at the hotel directly.

Have fun!

While we didn't use it, brochures found in the room stated that internet access was available in the business center in the hotel. It did not mention what the charge was, but it didn't mention FREE anywhere on the brochure. I'm sure there is a hefty charge associated with it.

Cingular Wireless has Data Connect to connect your laptop to your cell phone. It gives you the freedom to use your laptop anywere you want. The next time we go to DL, I will have one on my laptop.
