Some debit card fees are going bye bye already!

I love when consumers actually take action to change big business policy. In this case, it appears to be working.

Too late for me. I have already switched to USAA from Suntrust. I bet others have as well.

Too late here As well, I swapped to a credit union about 3 weeks ago. Technically, I didn't have a fee attached to my account, but I felt better banking with a bank that could offer free debit card use to all the customers, not just some of them.

They'll just find another way to charge you.

Maybe, maybe not.
One day, I was on the restaurant board complaining about the horrible food at disney when some one said very simply. VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS!! :thumbsup2

What it does do is send a couple of clear messages.
1) The consumer is no longer willing to sit quit and take any *&^t that a business decides to do.
2) The consumer can and will hold onto their money if they don't like your policies.
3) we will no longer be held "emotionally" hostage by the line "we have to charge these fees to stay in business". if thats the case go out of business.

Netflixs learned that the hard way. Bank of America is learning that as we speak. Chase and wells fargo all announced they were dropping their debit fees. does anyone really believe they are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts?

the nations largest credit union NFCU has seen triple the business in October and the national association of credit unions has said its site has almost shut down its been inudated with folks looking for a credit union to switch their money to.

GO Consumer!!:cheer2: Thankfully I think the average consumer is paying alot more attention now.

Bank of America this morning announced they are dropping their plans to start charging the $5 fee.

"We have listened to our customers very closely over the last few weeks and recognize their concern with our proposed debit usage fee," said David Darnell, Bank of America's co-chief operating officer. "Our customers' voices are most important to us. As a result, we are not currently charging the fee and will not be moving forward with any additional plans to do so."

BOA might be dropping the fees for debits cards but they are adding new fees. I got a letter in the mail yesterday that stated that in December our free money market account will now have a fee. So next week DH and I are changing banks.

Today in the mail I got a letter from TD bank with their new fees. I don't care that ther debit/ATM fees are staying the same, I use a debit card.

What affects me is that they're now charging $ 2 a month for statements with printed check images. Personal and business, that's now $ 48 more a year. I don't think so. So I'm now going to be shopping for a new bank.
