Some Blizzard Beach questions!

So here are my Blizzard Beach questions!

* How long would it take for 2 adults to do the slides in the park? We're 25 and 27, and would love to play on the slides - and the lazy river! We don't want to set a speed record, but I've read from other people that you could have lots of fun in this park, and be done in a couple of hours. True?

(I'm thinking we could play there in the morning of our final day, then head to another park in the afternoon.)

* Is Typhoon Lagoon worth going to as well? Or are they pretty similar? Would we have had our fill of water parks after Blizzard Beach?

* Is the Summit Plummet REALLY scary?

* Is there any good food in Blizzard Beach? I've read the menus and most are all quick burgers. Are there any yummy places though? Or would we be better to head to another park for lunch?

* What's a snowball? You can buy them at Arctic Expedition, apparently, with all different types of flavours...

Thankyou!! :cheer2:

Well, how long it takes really depends on the lines. The lines for the big slides, like Summit Plummet, can be excruciatingly long. And they move slow. So if you're up for doing it - prepare to wait. ;)

Summit Plummet is not so much scary as it is, kinda painful. It's VERY fast. VERY fast. It's so fast, that you hardly remember it. All you really remember is feeling like you're going to fly over the side and there's a stinging sensation underneath your back - which I assume is the water pressure - it's off the charts. ;)

And then, there's the wedgie at the bottom. Feel free to pick it out of your butt right out in the open - everyone does. :rotfl:

Typhoon Lagoon, IMHO, is the better waterpark. It's just got better theming, it's more tropical and relaxing - it also has some great slides and the wave pool is a million times better than BB's. Other than that, you get what you get - slides, lazy rivers, beach chairs - waterpark stuff.

The food at BB is pretty typical theme park fast food. Lottawatta Lodge has burgers and chicken fingers and that sort of thing. It's alright. There are other assorted food stands throughout the park with very limited choices.

Haven't had a snowball myself, but I'm guessing it's like a sno cone, maybe. :sunny:

Woo boy!

I think perhaps Summit Plummet isn't for me! I don't fancy stinging sensations and wedgies! Ew!

Thanks for your advice, grinningghost! :thumbsup2

If the lines aren't bad, you can do BB in a couple hours easy. I have to agree that we liked Typhoon Lagoon better then BB. We spent hours in the wave pool at TL, much better then the one at BB. The water roller coaster at TL is a BLAST too. We spent a lot of time at the waterparks and never really tired of them.

I loved both water parks, but if I had to choose just one, I would choose TL. The water coaster ride is sooo fun, and the line moves quickly. Also, the shark pool is a really cool and unique experience. I enjoyed most of the slides at both parks, but the summit plummit is kinda painful, and it turned the top of my tankini inside out. So attractive :thumbsup2 .

We used to like BB best, but TL has become our favorite of the two, having just experienced Crush 'n Gusher (the watercoaster) and the Shark Reef last month for the first time. The Shark Reef is awesome. I was previously too afraid to try it. I can't really swim and thought I'd panic, but it was wonderful. I almost chickened out when they announced that the water was 10 feet deep, but I did it and you float so well in the salt water that you don't need to be able to swim well (you just use arm movements to move across the pool, no feet kicking).

Crush 'n Gusher was a blast! All of that said, Blizzard Beach has a better family raft ride (Teamboat Springs) and we like the Runoff Rapids water slides at BB a lot.

The lazy river at both a great, with maybe a slight preference for TL due to the tropical atmosphere.

A few hours should be enough time for two adults to get through what they want, as long as you don't have to spend too much time in queues.

We've had hot dogs at BB which were fine, but that's the only food we've tried at either of the water parks. If you only plan to spend the morning and then leave, you may prefer to get lunch elsewhere. For example, TL is right across the street from DTD, so you could go to Earl of Sandwhich or Wolfgang Puck's cafe or any number of other choices there for lunch.

Hi, You could probably do BB in a few hours but you might find that you will want to stay longer than that. We get to the water parks as soon as they open and usually stay untill 1:00 or 2:00 before it gets too hot.

We also like TL better, if you only plan on going to one, make it TL.

If you go on Summit Plummit, expect a nuclear wedgie!! The only time I rode I had to pull my suit out and back into acceptable position. I then took a couple of steps and realized that the liner had been crammed even farther up. There are all sorts of un-gentlemanly things that I am thinking right now to describe the sensation, but I will just let you use your own imagination. I rode it so my brother would not call me a chicken. (I have to admit that I was 42 at the time and he was 46). Nobody said we had to grow up. I didn't find it too scary but certainly not worth waiting in line for very long.

The food there is OK nothing special.

And a snowball I think is like a snow cone, shaved ice with flavored syrup.

Good luck and have a great time on holiday.

AA are you staying at a Disney resort? If so you can get into the waterparks (at the moment at least) an hour earlier than other guests. In that hour you should be able to get on most of the rides pretty quick. Last week the queue for summit plummit was zero at opening time to over an hour later in the day!

Also both parks are very different. The wave pool at TL is superb but with the expeption of the Slusha Gusher I would say BB has the better water rides possibly. Then again if you like water slides maybe Wet N Wild is the better option anyway? My advice would be to both anyway!..

And one final tip found elsewhere on here would be to get a refilable drink mug ($11) or sticker ($6) if you have a mug already..

Thanks so much for your ideas, everybody! It looks like we might have to head over to Typhoon Lagoon as well!

Speaking of which, how do you get there, from Blizzard Beach? Where do you catch the bus to, to get to TL?

And another question, and it's a silly one, so beware...

It's been so long since I've been to a water park, that I can't remember what people wear! Do people just walk around in their speedos? Cause.... ew. I'd imagine I'd wear boardies and a rashie vest. Is that okay?

And then what? If we were to go to another park afterwards, do people bring a change of clothes to change into? Then have to carry around their wet bathers and towel all day?

In fact, do you even have to bring your own towel to a water park?

Hmmm, it's all very intriguing!

So many questions, sorry!

Yes, we're staying at Pop, and planned on making use of the Magic Hours...

We were also planning on buying a refilable mug from Pop, but you can't take that to other places, can you? I thought it had to just be refiled at Pop.

And what's a sticker? :confused3

Yes, if you go at opening and not during a busy holiday season. You can ride everything by 11:30

(I'm thinking we could play there in the morning of our final day, then head to another park in the afternoon.)

* Is Typhoon Lagoon worth going to as well? Or are they pretty similar? Would we have had our fill of water parks after Blizzard Beach?

Theming is totally different. Both have unique experiences. BB is my favorite. We have annual passes that include the water parks. I still enjoy going frequently, so I guess I haven't had my fill yet.

* Is the Summit Plummet REALLY scary?

That depends. It is very high up. It is fast. You get a major wedgie at the end if you aren't careful.

* Is there any good food in Blizzard Beach? I've read the menus and most are all quick burgers. Are there any yummy places though? Or would we be better to head to another park for lunch?

We like to get food at the stand closest to the Ski Patrol area. They have turkey legs and BBQ sandwiches. I really like the BBQ there.

* What's a snowball? You can buy them at Arctic Expedition, apparently, with all different types of flavours...

This is located right near the BBQ stand I mentioned above. Basically, it's a snow cone. Blue raspberry is good.

BB sells a refillable mug with a upc sticker that is good only for that day. If you already have the BB mug, you can bring it with you and just buy the daily sticker. That's what we do.

Speaking of which, how do you get there, from Blizzard Beach? Where do you catch the bus to, to get to TL?

The resort will have a bus that will take you to the water parks. Just read the signs at the bus stop and on the bus.

And another question, and it's a silly one, so beware...

Most ppl wear their bathing suit. You can usually identify men/boys wearing speedos as not from the USA. The men/boys from USA usually wear knee length swim suits. Women/girls wear a bathing suit. Be careful of two piece bathing suits as they can have "malfunctions" on the slides. I'd recommend some type of water shoe that will not fall off. The pathways can get very hot and burn the feet. Beware of critters. It isn't often, but I have seen snakes, lizzards, palmetto bugs, etc get aweful close to people's bags. I always use a beach bag with a zipper and keep it closed until I need something.

And then what? If we were to go to another park afterwards, do people bring a change of clothes to change into? Then have to carry around their wet bathers and towel all day?

Yes, there are lockers to store your belongings. They come in 2 sizes, and both are actually fairly small. You get a key on a band to wear as you swim and can access your locker anytime you need. The major parks have lockers as well where you can store your things.

In fact, do you even have to bring your own towel to a water park?

You can rent a towel from the water park if you would prefer.

At both the waterparks you can also buy a mug. The difference is you can only refill on that day. Whats not advertised too much is you also buy a barcoded sticker for $6 for any future days. The mugs are different to the resort mugs as without the bar coded sticker the machines wont dispense. However (in theory) you could use your Pop mug - just go to the counter at the food section and ask for a refil sticker - there is no need for them to see your mug and you can put it on yourself.

Are you staying at a Disney Rresort? If so you can take a bus right there from your Resort. The bus for Typhoon Lagoon usually goes to Downtown Disney as well.

What are Boarders and a Rashie? I think any suit that is not too revealing would be OK. As a normal American Male I think that if you look good in a skimpy bikini that would be great too !

You can either change there or go back to your rom and freshen up. If you wanted to another park right away you could leave your "bathers" in a locker.

Don't worry about asking too many questions, we are happy to help.

We love both of the water parks with Typhoon Lagoon being our fav because of the wave pool.

If you get to the park first thing the line ups aren't bad and you can get through quite a few quickly.

I am 43 and did Summit Plummit, would do it again in a minute! The only thing is that it hurts the celulite on the sides of your legs with the water pressure on it.....other than that, it is a blast!!! Guess I could get rid of the celulite :rotfl2:

Have fun!!

A "rashie" is a surfing rash vest I believe? I saw a few people wearing them but not many.

Teeeheee! Sorry, I haven't worked out which parts of my language are "Aussie slang" yet! I'm sure I soon will! ;)

By "boardies", I meant board shorts. Like, surf shorts! They can be either long or short, and they're made of quick-dry material, and surfers (and anybody who swims!) wear them in the water. Surely they're not just an Australian thing?! I'm sure I've seen Summer in The O.C wearing boardies! :cool1:

And yes, a "rashie" is a surfer's rash vest. But they're not just for surfers - everybody wears them on beaches, so they don't get sunburnt! Or so your bikini top doesn't come flying off in a big wave!

Maybe I'll set up a little stand in Disneyworld and sell Australian boardies and rashies. Heheheee.

Maybe been a Brit helps me.. Loads wear board shorts and in fact they sell them in BB and TL also..

I noticed in Orlando airport they had a restaurant called "The Outback" which even had Tooheys on draft...

Hi, yep boardies and rashies sound like a very sensible thing to wear, maybe not as eye-catching as a bikini but I think you will still probably have your top at the bottom of Summit Plummit. Just keep in mind that on some of the body slides too much fabric will slow you down.
