Solo Trips

For those of you who have gone on solo trips, did you enjoy it as much as a trip with friends/family?

I have read about solo trips quite a bit on these boards, but I personally can't imagine that I would enjoy myself if I went alone. I think I'd get lonely and bored pretty easily without someone to share the magic with.

I have a 3 year old who LOVES all things Disney, so I don't see any solo trips in my near future, but I was just wondering about others' experiences. However, I definitely would go without my dh...he is not a Disney person and I have much more fun without him!

Thoughts on this??

I usually go alone and I really like it. You can do what you want...when you want w/o having someone else plan the day. Of course, not having someone to hang out with is bad but it's ok for me. I like to strike up conversations with people in line.

I did solo trips up until about five years ago when we moved to Georgia. Since then, just about every trip involved at least my husband if not other members of our family. This past March, I got to do another solo trip and it was fantastic, just like the previous ones.

You can do what you want, when you want, and how you want. The same magic is there and even if you can't turn and say to someone else "gee, that was great!", you still experience it. I come home from the solo trips and babble for days about everything I did.

This last trip, I called my stepmother to lament that I had such a long wait for my FastPass at Expedition Everest. She said "why don't you do the singles line?" Duh! So you can still have interaction on a solo trip!

I have done 5 solo trips and enjoyed them a great deal. No, they aren't the same as when I go with my husband, but they are still great - just in a different way. You are able to do exactly what you want, when you want to. (And since my husband is not the Disney-nut that I am, these were 5 trips that I would not have gone one if I only went when he wanted to)

I'm going to "try out" the solo thing in January. My family (sister, brother-in-law, nephew and parents) is going from January 4-8 and I'm staying one extra night. My family will leave before lunch on the 8th and I don't leave until evening on the 9th, so I'll have almost 2 days by myself. Because this is a short trip for the family, I'll be able to do stuff we don't get done (like the Studios) on my solo days. I'll have an annual pass, too, so no problem with tickets (since it will already be paid for). I'm looking forward to trying it out. I think I'll like it. I am considering the Keys to the Kingdom tour.

That's exactly the same as me, except I've taken 7 solo trips (with the 8th in September). Actually, my first was a gift from my family for Mother's Day-"Mom's weekend". It was wonderful to do exactly what I wanted when I wanted, sit on a bench for hours and just people-watch or read a book if I wanted. One day I even went out to the bus stop and got on the first bus that came along. And while I was on the bus I called DH on my cell phone because he'd bet me I couldn't be that spontaneous in WDW because I'm always such a commando planner. Solo trips are wonderful, but they are wonderful/fun in a different way from a family trip.

It is hard to say if it is better solo or with family. It is really two different experiences, both can be enjoyed on their own level.

As one person stated, you can do what you want, when you want and as often as you want. Eat when you want, what you want and...well you get the idea.

I have found myself many times experiencing a ride or show and remembering it with my girls and get a little melancholy. But then I enjoy it, for itself, and move on. Life, like anything else, is what you make it. I have enjoyed the unhurried, no pressure benefit that traveling solo has given me but I also enjoyed the family unit experience. It's apples to oranges. Both are good, but different.
