Hi all, I'm braving up and planning a solo trip to Florida, 1 week Disney and 1 week Universal. Tips and tricks welcome please. Do many people go solo?

Sure, lots of people do. I've done it myself several times. I love the freedom of being able to go where I want, eat when and what I want. If I want to explore a shop for a half hour, I do it, and don't have to worry about holding anyone up. If I want to just wander randomly and take photos for the entire afternoon, instead of going on rides, I do it.

I don't know that solo trips require any special tips and tricks, other than...enjoy the freedom! :)

A lot of people do. I’m going solo this fall with the same plan as you. I’d recommend checking out the Solo forum. Many, many posts from solo travelers with their experiences, as well as tips and suggestions. Have fun!

I'll arrive on Monday for my annual solo trip. I love it freedom of it. Most of my life is spent in service to other, which I love, but this is my "refill the tank" trip. I hope OP has a marvelous time.

I too went solo many times this past year to utilize my AP. I too suggest you head on over to the Solo Threads.

I just stayed at Values, took MDE, & let Disney do all the driving. I brought & bought food to eat in my room for all breakfasts & some lunches/dinners. I took meals into the parks. I made a few special ADR's (did old favs & tried some new places), took resort holiday display tour, & booked a dessert party for my birthday.

My favorite part of WDW solo is not asking anyone else's opinion of what they'd like to ride first, when to take bathroom breaks, where or when to eat, when should we head back to room, last minute decision to shut off alarm & sleep in, etc. etc. I was able to use single rider lines & that freed up FP for other headliners. Getting & modifying FP for 1 to the exact time you want is possible every day.

My least fav part of WDW solo was TL has some rides they won't allow singles to ride but I was able to find other singles willing to pair up. No one ever brings you lunch or a drink, you have to get it yourself. You can't save a table & pick up your food, one time I had to request a seat at a table with another family, as there was no open spaces. Some ADRs sat me at less than desirable location 2 tops.

I go on solo trips a lot, including 2 this summer, and I love them! I really don't have any planning tips or tricks, just do what you feel like doing. If you want to only go in the parks for 2 hours and then spend the rest of the day sleeping, do it. If you want to only eat dole whips and ride mountains all day, do it. If you want to ride small world all day I would strongly advise against it, but you can do it if you want! Plan the kind of days you have always wanted to have, and if the day comes and you feel like doing something else then change them (although I strongly suggest deciding on dropping dining reservations more than 24 hours ahead of time so you aren't charged, but at least since you're alone it's only $10 if you skip it). They are some of my favorite trips, I always end up meeting and chatting with awesome people in line, in restaurants, and even on rides when they stop/break down.

I go solo all the time, and I always have a blast! The only tip I have is choose a resort that speaks to you!

I go solo all the time. I have been to WDW and UOR as a solo traveler. I used to have an AP for both
In all honesty, I think a week at UOR is too long.
I would shave off a couple days from UOR and lengthen the Disney time.............and that is assuming you will be going to Volcano Bay.
I am a rope drop person and always enjoy rope drop to early afternoon in each park with structured plans........ and then I do more freestyle stuff in the afternoons and evenings.

As others have said, it is very enjoyable and you will have a good time.

I went solo in May for the first time and at first I felt awkward always saying I was by myself at rides, but after you get used to it it’s FUN. You can do whatever you want when you want.

Take advantage of single rider lines and honestly, just do whatever the hell you want. It’s a great feeling to be able to not have to cater to anyone else. If you feel weird go to Epcot and have some drinks, that’s where I finally felt like being solo was as good as it was.

I loved my solo trips. I really enjoyed being able to get up when I want and do what I want. My 1st time I did my favorite things and the things I couldn't do when others traveled with me.
Enjoy!

April was my first solo trip and I had an amazing time. I thought I'd feel a little weird doing everything by myself but then I remembered how much money I was spending and put it out of my mind lol. It was nice to be on my own schedule and relax when I wanted to, eat when I wanted to (or not), and go hard when I wanted to (I did DAH on two consecutive nights, which I probably couldn't have done with my usual Disney traveling buddies). I recommend visiting lounges and sitting at the bar for a drink and snack - it's a great way to decompress without feeling awkward taking up a table by yourself (I guess that'll be my next milestone for my solo January trip).

It also helped remembering this board and knowing that PLENTY of people go solo!
