Solo Trip

LOLOLOL!!!

OP, that brings to mind another great point about going alone - I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want, and not have to worry about what my DH might think. Last time I went alone (can't believe I'm admitting this), I had some steak tacos from Cocina Cucamonga and a frozen strawberry margarita...waited 30 minutes in line for Toy Story, then came back and got a clam chowder bread bowl and a chocolate croissant. Did I feel sick after? Yes. Was it delicious? You better believe it

When I went by myself I had Four-Cheese Pasta & Vegetable Gratin with a mint julep at the French Market. Went on a couple more rides and when I left I stopped my the red cart and got a corn dog (I love the corn dogs).

I'd say when I go up for solo trips, it's 75% about eating and 25% about rides, and that's no exaggeration. Like Funball said earlier, when I'm at Disneyland, I don't worry about what I eat because I feel like all that food magically melts away because of all the walking ;) I wanted to clarify that it's not because my DH would judge the amount I'm eating if he were with me, just that I wouldn't want to impose my eating schedule on him (or anyone else that was traveling with me) if they weren't hungry when I was, which is pretty much all the time when I'm surrounded by all those yummy DL treats!

I have done so many solo trips and it is really fun to go by yourself. Just like what Funball and sonnyjane said that going solo is fun and you can do whatever you want. Even though it does not feel the same when you are not with your family or friends when you go to the DLR. It is great to go on the solo line and don't have to wait in those long lines.

brett u don't wait anyway because you sometimes go on rides with me :rotfl2:

anyhow as a solor rider sometimes you can get on quicker with the single rider, but not always

isn't funny how you can eat at WCT for lunch when solo or not and then be walking past a churro cart like 20 min later an and go "ohhhh i need one of those" and make a b-line for the churros?!? that happens to me ALL the time..

I have never gone to disneyland solo, but I admit I dream about it too! I am the type of person who likes to go shopping alone and generally does great by myself (I am a total INFJ introvert!), but I can't really imagine going by myself. Partly because we live in the Bay area, and it would be a big drive to just go for me, and partly because I would feel guilty not taking my kids. My daughters love disneyland as much as I do, and they would be really sad if I went without them. I think if it were just me and my husband (and we didn't have kids) he would encourage me to go on my own if I wanted, but he would thing it was a little weird!

I would love to shop on mainstreet as long as I wanted, without having to buy a bunch of stuff for my kids. I know if I go into the main street stores with my girls, they will want to buy things, and so we tend not to do a lot of shopping there. I like to browse and not really buy, and would love to look at all the little details in the shops. I also would like to find a nice bench and just people watch.

If you do take a solo trip be sure to write a trip report! You have gotten some great advice.

I will be alone as well for my trip next month. When are you planning your trip?
I have visited Disneyland before by myself. I live in Sonoma County. I recognize the name Galt. I have not visited there yet. Have you visited Sonoma County? It is known for it's wine country. And Napa County as well, for it's wine. It is right next door.
Anyway... you will have a nice time, I am sure. Granted, not everyone is comfortable with being alone. Well fortunately that is not I. And it sounds like you are comfortable too in the company of one. I will be going for my birthday.

I travel solo often, and have done solo trips to both DL and WDW (very different experiences, but with similarities.) Most of the advantages of solo trips have already been discussed, but if there is one thing to watch out for going solo, it's to be careful not to overdo it. It is easy to cover a lot of ground this way, but at the same time you want to make sure you aren't going to hit the wall halfway through the trip. This is probably less of an issue for a more frequent visitor than myself, but keep in mind that you can easily end up walking 10-12 miles in a day if you keep going, and that isn't counting standing in lines.

My next semi-planned trip will not be solo (going with some friends), but I quite enjoy solo traveling if given the chance.

I know that Sara, I do appreciate riding with you on the last trip and hope to do it again next month. I'm just saying when I went solo in the past, I mostly do all the rides in the morning and take a break in the afternoon and go back to the resort for the nighttime shows.

You are right that the single rider lines are not that quick as someone assumes.

speakingof solo trips and shopping.. as a girl being alone at the parks it's just easier to shop with out our men hovering over us!

yes some single rider lines are not as quick as you think.. we figured that one out brett..but not to scare the op, solo trips are fun!

I'm thinking of doing the solo trip in September. My current plan is to go the second week in May with DH, DF and DB, which is when I plan on getting my AP. I have no desire to go to DL during the summer anymore and especially not this summer since I imagine it's almost going to be worse with LMAUA and ST2 opening up. It is slightly harder for me to go during the fall as I coach cheerleading, but I think I may do a Sun-Tues trip which would mean no games missed and only one practice canceled.

I'm sure I've been to Sonoma County, though to be honest, I never pay attention to the county I'm in. I've been to the bay area a lot, went to college in San Rafael, my BF lived in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, so I've been down in that area a time or two. lol I'm not sure whether I would drive or fly though, when going solo. We usually drive when we go and I do the driving, so I don't think that would bother me as DH usually sleeps 75% of the trip and it would save on airfare. Still plenty of time to figure that aspect out though.

I think I may start doing the TR. I love reading them, I'm especially fond of Belle Ella at the moment.

Thanks again for all the great advice everyone is sharing, I really appreciate it!

I need to add some info for you since you will going by yourself! It's about the wine bar, they have a lounge.. called Alfresco Lounge, it's above the wine bar near the WCT, anyhow if you can find my drink thread, in the table of contents there is I think links to the photos of the lounge and how to get up there,, anyhow th lounge offers a wide range of wine(i mean wide) and cocktails.. of course what girl wouldn't like to have a magical start cocktail? Yes it has glow cube in it! I am a big fan of those! Anyhow they also offer 4 appetizers, and the Rustic Bruschetta is the most ordered, it is one of my favorites also. I like the Frito misto also, it's a lot it can be considered a meal.Anyhow like I said if you can find, in fact I will just post the link, and in the TOC like I said I put links of the Alfresco lounge and some photos of the cocktail book plus some cocktail photos! oh and stay away from the mojitos, they are VERY sugary and just not that great-but the ones at electronica at end of line bar are awesome...

Where to find adult drinks--plus photos! 1st post, TOC

I've already been lurking on your drink thread, Funball. ;)

Oh that is exciting.. sorry the photo in the TOC are not labeled write, they are a collection that people have posted in the that thread, I do have to tell you also that if you do decide to visit the wine bar and if you like champagne, the cheapest they have is the stanford brut, it's good, it bubbly and it's sweet but not dry maybe a hint of fruit but not to sweet, also I am a big freak about getting my money's worth, so the .oz in that split of champagne(yes its a split) is actually more cost effective to get because you get a little more then the average 5.oz pour that they give you with the other wines, so I tend to get that sometimes because I get more for my money. Also, no one knows this but I do they also offer a port wine, it's made my Woodbridge, it's california port, it's called “Portecinco” it's $8.16-that is with tax, and you get the average pour, but it's also well worth the money not only is it good and chocolate-y tasting, but it's a port and the other ports you get a smaller pour this one you get the regular 5.oz pour like you would if you ordered wine and you can walk around the park with it, it has sweet and mild notes of dark chocolate but it is soo super smooth. You can walk around DCA with wine and beer in plastic cups just not mixed drinks or cocktails. I know it seems bad I know all this, but I did my research for that thread!

I think it's awesome that you know all that and share your knowledge. I think that's one of the biggest reasons that DIS is so successful is that people share their wealth of knowledge on different topics and ways of doing things. Some people (myself included) may be used to doing things a certain way or have been to DL countless times, but still find great ideas to try or things they didn't know about.

Well, you are right about not knowing things and trying and I had no idea about the Portecinco till it was suggested to me by one of the cm's at the winery and I tried it and it was good, and on a cold night it's perfect-it warms you up, it really does cause of the brandy in it, because that is how they make port wine.. also Briar, I have done the Port wine and cheese tasting at the winery also was apart of my research, and I give that 5 stars and two thumbs up, i'd do it again , for $12 it is awesome, they explain about how the port is made, each one is different in taste ( u get 3) and the cheese they pair it with is excellent, I love cheese so this was a no brainer for me to try! You can do it with chocolate, but I choose cheese everytime because you get more, again more for your money, anyhow it was interesting hearing how each one was made and how long it takes to ferment them.. it's amazing process.i guess i am kinda the adult drunk guru :lmao: ohh and omg the white sangria.. to die for! Girl you are going to have so much fun doing this trip, DCA and DL has so much to offer you as a solo trip taker--also rancho del zocalo is the best place to eat, they are soo good the tostada's awesome, don't do red rockets-the pizza is dry but you can get gourmet salad which are VERY good...need any other info? any questions about the wine bar? the cocktails? etc? just let me know..

Oooo! The cheese tasting sounds amazing! That's at the lounge, right?

No that is at the winery.....i think I might have a photo of it somewhere in that drink thread I did, I know I took a photo

it goes like this.. blue sky cellar is to the right of WCT, next to that to the left of it is the wine bar that is called the mendocino terrace, then to the left of that is the WCT, but between WCT and the wine bar is a set of stairs that goes upstairs for the WOC wct dinner/lunches, an then to the right at the top of the stairs is the Alfresco lounge.. now they may have changed it and do do the cheese tastings up there but i am not sure..i know that if you want one of those fantastic cheese box's and ur upstairs at the lounge you can order it and they will go down stairs and get it and bring it to you on a nice plate. also if you get a wine from downstairs you get take it upstairs to lounge also :thumbsup2

Exactly! And my husband just isn't the shopping type, either. I have enjoyed reading the extra information about the wine bar. I have never even been in that area--we always just walk right by. I would love to try that port wine. I plan on putting this on my list for this summer when I take my girls.
