Okay, I've done several searches and I really can't seem to find much information on solo trips. I know there are DISers out there doing them, because I've seen a couple TR, but as far as threads, I'm coming up empty. I've been to DL 14 times in my 26 years and have never gone alone. I am finally getting an AP this year when we go in May and I think this year will be the perfect time to try this out. I am married, so I was wondering if anyone had tips on how to go alone without making DH feel like I don't want him there. Also, any advice on traveling alone or tips on doing a solo trip would be super helpful. I'm also wondering if there are hotels that feel "safer" than others. I usually stay at the BWPPI, but do you think I would feel safer staying on property? TIA

I go alone about once a month and have only gone with my DH twice in the last three years. We have very different schedules so it's pretty hard to get him up there, plus he's not a huge DL fan. He views DL as my "escape", so whenever I am having a down day, or just a bored day, I'll drive up there. I try to bring him back a cookie or something each time I go :)

As far as feeling safe at BWPPI vs. on-site, other than Grand Californian, BWPPI is closer to the parks than the other on-sites are to the front gates. As you know since you've stayed there before, the crosswalk and sidewalks into the promenade are well-lit. I think you'd be just fine staying there alone.

The most important thing I can tell you about going alone is to take advantage of the Single Rider Lines.

The following rides currently have SRL's:

DL:
Indiana Jones
Splash Mountain

DCA:
California Screamin'
Soarin'
Grizzly River Rapids

Just go up to the CM in the front of the ride and ask for a "Single Rider" pass. They'll give you a piece of paper that allows you to enter through the exit and essentially cut to the front of the line. Whenever there is an empty seat, they will stick a single rider in to fill the spot. I take advantage of this all the time and save my FP's for the rides that don't offer SRL.

LOLOLOL!!!

OP, that brings to mind another great point about going alone - I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want, and not have to worry about what my DH might think. Last time I went alone (can't believe I'm admitting this), I had some steak tacos from Cocina Cucamonga and a frozen strawberry margarita...waited 30 minutes in line for Toy Story, then came back and got a clam chowder bread bowl and a chocolate croissant. Did I feel sick after? Yes. Was it delicious? You better believe it :)

That is a good point, you won't have someone around reminding you the calorie count to a churro or a dole whip, just remember your on vacation and once you step foot inside DLR all diets go out the door!so if you are on a diet, just kiss that goodbye on your trip! besides turkey legs have lots of protein! :thumbsup2

Funball and Sonnyjane, you guys have made me crack up! I love the best reason for leaving DH at home, eat whatever, whenever I want! lol I always get that "i shouldn't be eating this" as a female, so that may be a selling point in it's own. Loved the single rider wine bar too! I knew about the single rider lines, so I think that'll help in general (wish they had one for the Matterhorn though.) I'm thinking a 3 day trip would be perfect since then if I'm not loving being on my own, it's not that long. Also, one of the other reasons I've been considering the solo trip to meet up with other DISers and MouseWaiters that I've met online or via iPhone app, which I know DH will not want to do. Thanks for the advice and Happy St. Patty's day to you all!

I just want to say that the wine bar doesn't really have a single rider line, I was just being funny.. they will have a line, but I think you manage! I can make some suggestions on what to get, just pm me if you want to know! just remember what happens at DLR stays at DLR.:lmao::rotfl2:..;)

Oh and since you won't hve your personal “calorie counter” with you, I have to make some suggestions where to eat(u probably already know) but, the soup bread bowls at pacific warf are yummy—and u can get the soup on the side, taste pilots grill has the best burgers and salads- at least I think so, award wieners has the biggest corn dogs, so if you order one get just one, they are very good....and Uva Bar has a awesome appetizer list an they are rather large some of them can count as meals!

Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

I knew you were joking about the single rider line for the wine bar, that's why I found it funny, too. I've a big fan of the breadbowls, though I must confess, i hardly ever get them with soup, normally the gumbo over in NOS. I am super excited to try the stuffed potatoes at Village Haus. Does Uva have a happy hour? That could get dangerous!

I've done a couple/few solo trips (though one was for the Divas trip, so not really *solo*), and they were fabulous!

In case you usually have DH finish off the bread portion...you can get the soup/gumbo put into a cup, and the bread put into a plastic bag...that way you can eat the bread as you wish to, not just b/c it's a toss or eat situation!

I"m sure you can find a solo trip report from the "many reports found through this link" link in my signature...

I usually go to DL solo twice a month. Like others have mentioned go early, take advantage of the single rider lines and my fav is getting in line for rides during noon when most people are having lunch. Have fun.

I went solo for the first time in February. It didn't start as a solo trip. Me and my daughter were planning on going to scrapbook convntion and then to disneyland since we have passes. Well she had a prior comitment that she didn't relize was on the same day.

I decided to keep my plans and had a great time. I was able to take my time walking around looking in shops deciding what rides to ride where to eat. The walk there and back I felt safe (I have always been comfortable walking to and from disneyland with just me and my kids)

After my experience I would go by myself again. It is always fun going with others but being able to enjoy the park on your own terms was wonderful.

When I went by myself I had Four-Cheese Pasta & Vegetable Gratin with a mint julep at the French Market. Went on a couple more rides and when I left I stopped my the red cart and got a corn dog (I love the corn dogs).
