I don't have a problem eating in restaurants as a solo. People watching and the Kindle app on my phone make it fine. So, I'm looking for suggestions as to where to eat. No sushi, OK I'll eat the shrimp tempura "sushi" at the Poly, but any other NO WAY. I am a carnivore. So, where should I make my ADRs?

If you are looking for a place where you can chat with folks, then try Teppan Edo or Biergarten. Of course you are subject to the whims/mood of your tablemates.

Of course the food courts are always a good choice since you can just grab what you want, find yourself a table and eat in peace. Another suggestion is the various lounges where you can usually order of a limited menu. Good choices there are the bar at the Poly and at AKL. Also, the lounge just outside the Yachtsman has some really good choices.

I'm jealous! Solo trips are so fun!

No sushi for me either! (shiver) When I went solo, I ate at The Brown Derby at DHS, Kona at the Poly, at the bar in Rain Forest Cafe, Olivia's at OKW and
Les Chefs De France in Epcot. I especially liked Chefs De France. They put me at a table next to the window, perfect for people watching.

I did a semi-solo trip....DH was at a business conference at BW and I was on my own most of the time.

I went over to Beaches and Cream and sat at the counter. I was able to watch all the food prep and chatted with a few of the CMs. Flying Fish also has a counter, so that could be an option for you. For another meal, I got a glass of champagne in France and take out in Morocco and sat, ate, and watched the world go by.

I took a lot of pictures for people and enjoyed wandering at my own pace.

Have a wonderful trip!

I like to get flatbreads at Captain Cooks at the Poly. If you are looking for a peaceful breakfast, I ate at the Wave. I also enjoy Plaza when I have gone solo.

Eat absolutely anywhere you want to eat! That's the glory of going solo. You can do whatever you want and not have to negotiate or compromise with someone else.

You're speaking my language!

I have no problem going solo, and I sometimes sit at the bar to eat if the restaurant has one. But I'll often sit at a table if I make an ADR.

Some of my suggestions are in the bars:

California Grill (or the show kitchen counter if you get an ADR)
Tune In Lounge (for 50's Prime Time food)
Jiko (with ADR you can sit at the Cooking Place counter)
Flying Fish (again, there's a show kitchen counter)
Il Mulino
Todd English's bluezoo™
Raglan Road
Sanaa

That's just a small list. ;) I have been seated at tables at those places and elsewhere solo, but eating at bars as a solo is pretty easy.

And you don't have to have sushi at the Kona sushi bar. You can order off the full Kona Cafe menu if you wanted to do so.

I second Jiko! When I was there as a solo, they sat me at the Cooking Place, which is basically the counter where the servers prepare appetizers, etc. It was wonderful chatting with them as I ate. The Mom & daughter next to me joined in. Excellent meal & a great time.

I agree with these! :thumbsup2

I totally agree. I would also add Yachtsman, was a lovely solo experience. Brown Derby (although I had to be insistent about not sitting in a dark corner in the back). Artist Point (have had great meals there solo).

I have taken two solo trips where I ate at several sit down restaurants, and not at the bar. I have eaten at the following:

Chefs de France (schedule around Illuminations)
Tokyo Dining (you can get tempura and the view is to die for!)
The Wave
Kona Cafe
Kona Sushi Bar (you can order from regular Kona menu)

I had a such a great time at these places and look forward to my next solo trip. The past four planned solo trips have turned into trips with different friends who just had to come with me.

Have a great time and enjoy being able to do what you want when you want to!

I went to the Tune-In Lounge in March on my solo trip and it was great. The bartender was really friendly and it was nice getting my 50's food fix without having to go into the PTC.

I had a nice lunch at The Coral Reef, and also at Earl of Sandwich (this has become my new favorite in DTD)...and I must say, I wouldn't have ever tried it, had it not been for the DIS !!!!

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I made my initial list and assigned which meal I wanted to eat where. I came up with 6 lunches in Epcot. That's 3/4 of my lunches. :lmao: I love Epcot, but I don't think I will be there for 6 days. Must edit list. At least as far as lunch goes, I might switch a lunch or 2 to dinner.

Amen to that!

I've enjoyed solo dining at:

Sanaa

The Plaza

Do you have a park hopper? If so, EPCOT 6 days is totally do-able. :-)

I've never done a solo trip, but what about private dining at the Grand Floridian? :)

The nice thing about being solo is you can get into restaurants without ADRs much easier as long as you aren't there at peak times. I'd go with as few ADRs as you could and then just eat when and where you would like.

That's one of the reasons I made a list of bars you can order meals, just for that reason. I've done both, ADR and sat in the restaurant solo, and sat at Tune In Lounge. It was just easier to do the lounge when you don't have an ADR.

There's nothing wrong with an Epcot-heavy trip. That would be me during the Food and Wine Festival.

And if it's still tough to get seated without an ADR, go for the bar. I'm being redundant when I say that's a great way to dine spontaneously as a solo without worrying about ADRs.

It also helps if you don't try to do the bar at California Gril within an hour until Wishes. If I ended up at the Contemporary close to fireworks time, I'd go to The Wave instead.
