Solo Trip - Post Weight Loss Surgery - Suggestions?

I posted the other day about trying to decide between going to WDW in October/November next year as DH has requested, or to go down for my birthday in March.

Much to my surprise DH suggested I do both! I'm taking a short 5 day trip end of February/early March solo and then DH and I will go for a longer trip over Halloween so I get the best case scenario!

I love planning the trips and I'm a huge foodie so the dining is always a focus for me, but now I'm kinda stuck. When DH and I go down we will end up ordering 1 appetizer/entree/dessert and sharing as I can't each much since weight loss surgery.

But now that I'm doing a solo trip I'm at a loss as far as where to go. Counter Service is pretty much out given the lack of "healthy" options except maybe sunshine seasons and the grab and go at the resorts, and I can't do a lot of starch or anything with a wrap as it's one thing that I can't seem to stomach at all.

The portions are huge at most restaurants so I'm thinking appetizers everywhere for a meal, or buffets. I know buffets are a lot of money for the little I will eat, but I like the idea of being able to have 1 or 2 bites of several things rather than just eating half a dish of anyone 1 thing and I've gotten over the concern of spending too much on food. My meal costs the same as everyone elses, I just don't eat as much as they do.

I'm thinking signatures may be the best option for reasonably healthy/appropriately sized appetizer options but are there any places that you would recommend in this situation?

Or I may just have to see if any other solo travellers will be there the same time and share dishes like I did on my solo trip in 2014.

I was going to suggest appetizers or kids meals at the sit down resturants. I know Flying Fish, 50's Prime Time and a few others allowed us to have kids size portions or kids meals. Also Flying Fish went above and beyond to help my mom when we were there. She could only eat completely clear broth due to a a intestional issue. They offered to make her a fish based broth, but she doesn't eat fish, Chef Russell said he will make sure she gets what she needs and he certainly did. She said it was the best cleanest chicken broth she has ever had. I would try to look at the menus both kid and adult and plan my dining from there.

Good Luck and have a magical trip!

I just had WLS also. We will be going in Nov for a family trip.
I love looking at all the places to eat even though I know I won't be able to eat much at all lol.
You do have an option to get the kids dining plan if you chose to do so. I called and confirmed this with Disney. They may ask to see your WLS card from your surgeon.
Start looking at menus now. There are some great side options available also! Have fun!

I did it and either ordered appetizers or kids meals. I ate the soup and crab and appetizer at Coral Reef. Another option are the F&G food booths

Is this new? Do you know that phone CM's are well known to give misinformation all the time?
This is totally contrary to everything I have ever read.

I've had WLS and go to the parks often. There are lots of good QS options available. Just off the top of my head...

MK - chicken at Cosmic Ray's (yes, you will toss some but it is what it is), fish (salmon I think?) or lobster roll at CHH (just leave the roll), Skipper's Canteen (the pork is yummy).

Epcot - my go to is Sunshine Seasons, lots of options there.

HS - I usually go by Starring Rolls and get a sandwich and eat the meat from it.

AK - I like the new market courtyard place. There are chicken skewers that are yummy, plus a gyro-type meat dish (I just leave the bread).

I'm very sure there are more, but there's a few to start with!

TS is of course going to have lots of options - steak, shrimp, crab, chicken, fish, etc. A favorite of mine is a nice filet at Yachtsman.

Have a great trip!

All the Starbucks places seem to have "small plates" after 4pm, so maybe that would be okay. I immediately thought of Spice Table at Morocco, which I think is like tapas. Also, I'm sure CS portions are too large for you, but there are many healthier options now at CS. DH and I have stopped eating sugar since our last WDW trip, nor anything that can turn into sugar (no white bread, pasta, etc, etc) so I have been looking at lots of CS menus. Of course, I have no idea what you can eat, but I think you may be surprised if you take a closer look at some of the CS places. (Don't get me wrong - I will certainly be having a sweet or 2, or 57, while at WDW - I will just have to watch how I start to feel!)

Interesting. My surgeons card has never meant anything to anyone I have ever shown it to at Disney. As Hopefully said, must be a brand new policy, if it's true....

I avoid starchy things and whether CS or TS, I usually don't have a problem when I tell them no bread or bun. For example, last time at CHH, I ordered the lobster roll, no bun. No problem. When it is a problem, as PP said, just toss the bread.
I think WDW does well providing healthy options. Many CS will substitute a fruit or vegetable instead of fries.
Have a nice trip!

No, you actually have the option to purchase the kids priced dining plan. I confirmed this with 2 different CM's.
They will make a note on your account.

I confirmed it with 2 CM's when I called and inquired about purchasing the kids priced dining plan for our trip.

CMs were wrong, sorry. Dining plan is auto charged by age and they won't mark you as a 9 year old if you're an adult as your ticket prices are also linked to age. There is zero way for them to alter it manually. Its the same way for kids who are tube fed. They still have to get the dining plan regardless. You can order off the kids menu, but buffet places will charge you as an adult. WLS card doesn't matter and they aren't obligated to honor it.

You'll get a lot of bad info from phone CMs, hence, this forum. You're welcome to believe the CMs, but when you actually go to book you're going to be in for a surprise.

You can do a search on this site and see the experiences over the years.
