I am meeting some friends in Vegas in June, so I am thinking of going early and spending sometime at DL since I have never been.

Any suggestions on where to stay or how best to save money since it will be just me?

This isn't advice about saving money, but it IS about saving time:

USE SINGLE RIDER LINES!

There are several rides in the parks that have a Single Rider Line for guests travelling alone.

Disneyland:
Matterhorn
Splash Mountain
Indiana Jones

DCA:
Grizzly River Rapids
Soarin'
Screamin'
Radiator Springs Racers
Goofy's Sky School

This will save you time in lines!

I went solo for my birthday in June 2011... I even almost finished a trip report about it, lol. :rotfl2: I would say if you have a loyalty card for any major hotel chain check out their Anaheim locations. Since my sister works for Starwood I was able to stay at the Sheraton Park Hotel for under $50 per night for 3 of my nights. I also found it easy to get a counter service meal mid-afternoon and it would carry me through to the end of the night since the portions are so large. Also look at the locations with interesting kids meals as the portion is often enough for an adult with a normal appetite. HTH
