Solo Resort Decision

I stayed at CSR my solo trip. I did not get a preferred room, I think I was in Casitas 4. I used Disney transportation and never felt unsafe walking around the resort at night. I don't mind walking a bit and think CSR is beautiful, spent some time enjoying the resort my arrival and departure days.

I agree! I usually stay at a deluxe resort, and now a DVC when I go with my family. For my first solo trip, I couldn't justify using the points just for me, so I went to CSR, got a great deal, and was fine. I stayed at the Ranchos, enjoyed the walks, and would do it again. This solo trip I'm only staying 2 nights and using DVC points cuz they were in holding and we would lose those points if I didn't use them by November 30th. Whatever you choose, I think you will be fine and enjoy yourself!

I am like many of the others and I'm not at the resort much, so I choose Pop since they have dedicated bus service and offer discounts (unlike AoA little mermaid).

The thought of offsite is so unappealing to me if traveling solo(I'm a woman), since I'd be a nervous wreck leaving the parks at night and being in a parking lot alone both at Disney and at the hotel upon return. Not to mention my lack of any sense of direction. I love being in the Disney bubble from the moment I get off the plane and don't have to figure out how to get to my resort.

I guess some offsite hotels offer shuttles and that might be ok, but Pop is cheap enough that I'd just as soon stay there and not worry about it.

I was in Orlando and due to staying with a basketball team we were offsite. I drove into WDW and parked at TTC or DHS when I was by myself. It was actually not scary at all walking back to my car. Well lit, trams driving around, and usually at least a few other guests doing the Where's Waldo Shuffle trying to find their car (remember your sections folks ;) that's why your phone takes pictures). That being said, I'm back onsite for my next solo cause I like the bubble as well.

Bete, may I ask what resort you were at? OP, I have stayed solo twice at POFQ and plan to stay there again next year. It was my first (and so far only) mod after previous deluxe stays and I was a little wary about the exterior corridors, but it turns out I really like it. I think the smaller footprint and the more manicured grounds make it nice if you're concerned about wandering around after dark. There are no preferred rooms at POFQ, but you can request to be closer to the main building. I've stayed in bldg 5 overlooking the lawn where they show movies in the evenings, and in bldg 2 facing the pool area, near the boat dock, and felt like there was always plenty of activity/families around when I was coming home at night.

I stayed at POP. I had to go by some bushes to get to my room which was on the first floor and I just got creeped out that someone could be lurking behind the bushes. If I heard footsteps that creeped me out, too. Then, I would look behind me to see who was coming. I always walked through the lobby as far as it would take me.

I would have felt that way no matter where I stayed.

I never felt spooked on the transportation or in the parks, but the resort property did get to me some.

I would watch WL or AKL for a great rate if you are overly security conscious. WL in particular is compact for a deluxe, and ALL hallways are interior. As a single mom traveling with 2 little ones, I felt extremely safe. Most standard rooms have a nice view, even if it does have it's drawbacks.

I have considered POFQ bldg 4 as well, but those exterior halls make me wary. I just wonder if I could settle easily for a good nights' sleep.

The first time I went solo I stayed at CBR. Well, I wasn't exactly solo; I would meet up with a group of ladies that were staying DVC at Boardwalk. I was invited to stay with them but, chose to stay alone. eight ladies in one DVC was not for me. Besides, I only knew a couple of them and met the others at MCO the day we arrived. We all had a really good time. How could you not, right???
The next solo I stayed at WL and absolutely LOVED it!! Would love to stay there again.....
Next time was at BC and LOVED it too.....
I have the opportunity to do another solo at the end of October and still trying to decide.....I think I would like to try Riverside. I need to make a decision soon!!:)

I agree with this post, if you are at all concerned about security. I have stayed solo at CBR, CSR, POFQ, AKL, and WL. While it does not bother me, I do notice I feel more comfortable in a deluxe resort. Once you go in the main doors, you feel like you are "home." You can wander all around in the building, from the lobby, to the shops, to the restaurants, to your room, and feel perfectly comfortable. I don't have that same feeling at the moderates as I wander around outside going from place to place. I really like the grounds and walking path at CSR, but you do have large convention crowds there at times, which can change the atmosphere a bit.

Going solo, I find I spend more time enjoying the resorts and resort-hopping, because I can do whatever I feel like doing. :) So I prefer to stay at a nicer resort. I do what you are going do, wait until the resort-only discounts come out and then choose a resort. You are picking a great time to go, both because of the lower crowd levels and to get a break from the weather in Michigan at that time. :)
