I am going to Disney in October. My first 2 days will be solo, then 6 days with my sis, her hubby, and their 3 kids. I have tons of dining ressies for when we are all together, nothing for my 2 solo days.

When you go solo do you schedule your meals or not? My first 2 days are at the Poly and I would really like to try one of it's restaurants. But with the the amount of food I do have scheduled, I am wondering if I should just relax and play it by ear.

My first day I am going to Epcot, the second day the Magic Kingdom. How long would it take to leave MK, go back to the Poly for a meal, and return to the park?

Please help, I am not usually so indecisive! :rolleyes1

Hi,
I *always* schedule my sit-down meals. If you plans change you can always adjust or cancel them. (Heck, on this last trip I think I changed every ADR at least once.) I would say allow 1/2 hour or so to travel between MK and Poly, depending on time of day, but that's just a guess.

I usually schedule one meal a day. I find if I don't have something scheduled, I don't stop and eat.

Kona Cafe at the Poly has great lunch food! Not too many people either. You would be very comfortable there. I have gone there alone several times. The food is really amazing!

I would second Kona. When you leave MK it is kind of a toss-up. Fastest is a launch, but I think it stops at GF first. If it looks like you could get on a ferry boat quickly, that would be OK but then you are looking at about an eight minute walk to the Great Ceremonial House. Or the monorail. In any event, it should not be more than 20 minutes each way.

I schedule a sit-down meal for every day of my trip. If I don't feel up to an ADR I always just call and cancel it. I third going to Kona Cafe for a meal while you are there it is one of my favorites.

HI!
I never schedule alone. I just wing it. Kona Cafe is wonderful!! I love their pot stickers.. Yum!!!

I am going alone in December for several days before my family joins me. I ALREADY have everything planned (and am just waiting a few days till I can make the ADR's) :rotfl: for the days I will be alone. The other days is when I play it by ear, because we have a young child and so don't do a lot of table service meals with him.

I'm going in August and have 1 day solo before the rest of my group arrives... I've decided to be daring and plan nothing... ;)
I also agree Kona Cafe is a great choice.

If you really want to know what I think, I would just do what you want when you want rather than go by a schedule. I've never been to WDW solo (though I would love to try it someday) but I think that being able to do what you want without having anyone else there to argue with about it would be one of the biggest pluses.

I was solo on one trip during the say, but I found that if I didn't schedule that I was sometimes turned away from where I wanted to eat since I didn't have reservations. If you don't care where you eat and just want food, then I don't see why you'd have to schedule. If you have a place in mine, and I go along with Kona, I'd say make your ADR.

On most of my solo trips, I go in the off-season, when planning is not as nessecary.

It also helps that I eat counter service a lot and only have one or two sit-down meals, depending on the length of the trip.

The only place I will make ADR for is 'Ohana, since it is so popular. Otherwise I just go with the flow and decide at the last minute where I want to eat.

Things are not hopping busy in October, so I say make two ADRs for a breakfast and a dinner at your favorite places, and wing it for the rest of the time. If you're eating sit-down for the rest of the week, it might be fun to explore all of the fantastic counter-service options, especially at Epcot.

Keep one dinner night free, and walk around World Showcase sampling stuff from the Food and Wine Festival booths.

I have my ADR's scheduled for my upcoming solo trip. I wasn't taking chances during free dining. Now, if it was the slowest season of the year, I might not do so and see where I end up.

absolutely! I may be planning to be with CM friends, or folks from WDI, or on my own -- but unless I plan to cook in ( in a DVC unit ) I always have an ADR! :)

HTH

i did a simple schedule so i knew what to make my adr's for. i planned what days were what parks. other than that it was pretty much on a whim

I went during an off-time in Feb. and did not have advance ressies. The longest I waited was about 15-20 min. at Kona, even though it was later in the evening (8pm?). It was fine, though because I just enjoyed the scenery longer. :thumbsup2

October, solo??? I would definitely spend that time wandering World Showcase at the Food & Wine Festival!!! Stopping at each booth to get a snack. Doing it with a group of people is tedious, especially with kids!!

Do the MK each morning, then head over to Epcot by 11.

That may not float your boat, but that's what I'd do!!!

As far as ADRs solo, I never do that. At least not ahead of time. I usually just wander up to a sit down restaurant and as a solo, they can usually seat you pretty quickly. If not, try calling WDW-Dine from your cell phone right then and there. They can usually get you in even when walkins are not available. If you strike out there too, (doesn't happen often), they can suggest other alternatives with a short wait.
