Solo Dining

DW is heading down to Orlando next week for a conference and will be staying in Downtown Disney area. She may have a night or two when she will be dining solo. Like many people, she's not a big fan of dining alone in a sit-down restaurant. Anyone have any suggestions what she should consider? I'm thinking maybe restaurants that serve food at the bar?? She will not be venturing into the parks to eat. Thanks!!

I would head over to the Solo board - there is lots of info about dining alone and suggestions. Personally, since I travel so much, I eat alone a lot and enjoy it. In DTD I like Wolfgang Puck (any of the options) and House of Blues. I don't really eat at DTD much, nor do I do character meals, etc unless I have kids with me.

I highly recommend some of the resort restaurants as well, with Yacht Club Galley, Spoodles, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Concourse Steakhouse, tea at GF, all being dependable, solid choices.

Rarely do solo's report poor service due to being alone, although some complained that 50's Prime Time servers do not get into character for solos. I have sometimes had trouble getting a PS when asking for one person, but changing the requet to two people finds space! (That one I can't explain, there are no single diner tables!)

Besides checking out the solo board (great idea), I'd also suggest eating at Chefs de France, asking for a window table. Not only have i gotten great "people-watching" opportunities, one time I got to see the Mime with the balancing chairs from there.

While I have no problem dining alone in any kind of restaurant here are some suggestions.

Some restaurants on property have a "bar" overlooking the kitchen, request to be seated there. It can be quite interesting to watch the cooks. Off hand Flying Fish, Wolfgang's, California Grill, Jiko (I think) do this.

Your idea of eating in the lounges is also a good idea. Most restaurants that have a lounge attached allow you to take a full meal there.

Is there anyplace that she has been dying to try but hasn't because you don't like the type of food is served there? This is her chance to try it out.

I worked in fine dining restaurants while in college and there was no "judgement" of a person just because they were dining alone.
