Going on first solo trip this December.....
Anyone have solo dining ideas besides counter service.
Sometimes it can be awkward eating alone at a sit down restaurant.

I know of the Tune in Lounge at 50's prime time is a good place.

any other ideas?

Thanks!

Been solo at a lot of places including Signature places. Never awkward. Eat where ever you want. Most places have bars you can sit at if you want. Bring a book. Enjoy your meal

I agree. I am a confirmed solo traveller to WDW and everyplace in between and I don't have any problems sitting at a table where ever I want and you shouldn't either. I particularly enjoy dining at the various resturants at the resorts. My favorite is Bomas but if you are looking for a casual dining option try Beaches & Cream Soda Shop.

I go solo pretty often and I never feel funny eating at restaurants. Love the Wave at the Contemporary and also Citrico's at Grand Floridian. I find that the CM's are very friendly and always make me feel right at home. I am going in December.

This! 2 solo trips done and another coming up, and I have never been uncomfortable dining solo (I don't even take a book or anything). I have usually been seated at a 2-top by a window, FWIW. Disney is a great place to "be brave" and go outside your comfort zone - the CMs in my dining experience have been great, and I've never been aware of any other diners paying any attention to solos (they are busy with their own families and dinners). And if someone does give you a "look," hey, you're never going to see them again! (They are probably jealous that you're having a nice, relaxing meal while they are dealing with tired kids, cranky spouses, etc. ;) )

Oh, to answer the original question - I think Flying Fish has some counter seating. And I loved my dinner there in 2012.:thumbsup2

I have done 3 solo Disney trips over the years and have never felt odd about it. Love it!!! My favorite places to eat are at the coral reef (I usually get to sit by the glass and get the best sit to see the fish). I have also done a few character dinners and got to enjoy a dinner with goofy as he sat at the table with me. All of the little kids ran up to us and asked for both if our autographs! It was a pretty cool experience

Yes I know how awkward it can feel to dine solo. Although I'm perfectly comfortable now, it took me about 3-4 solo trips before the awkwardness totally left. Sci Fi dine inn's a good place-it's just like sitting in front of the TV while you eat. We've all done that! And a tip-always tell the CM at the check-in that you're solo and would like "something to look at" (or a good view, or however you word it) since you won't have a dining companion to talk with. Doing that, I've always gotten good seating-a tank-side table at Coral Reef, a window side table at Chef's de France, the patio at Rose and Crown (lunch), etc. Once, during a particularly slow time, I even had a CM pull up a chair and keep me company-that was interesting! Although I never thought I'd say this, I love character meals, even though I don't particularly care for character visits. But I just love sitting there watching the families interacting with the characters. And if you're afraid you're going to "stick out" as a solo diner, no one notices you at all at a character meal-that is, unless you bear a striking resemblance to the character they're there to see! I sometimes think I could run around naked at a character meal and no one would notice, but I'll just think that, not test it out. And the servers at a character meal have always been so nice about me being there alone-I often get multiple servers stopping by to check on me.

I always go solo! I never find it awkward to eat alone. I find the servers are usually a bit more talkative and relaxed. Here is my list of places tried so far:

Be Our Guest
Boma
Bongos
Brown Derby
Cape May
Citricos
Flying Fish
Grand Floridian Café
Kona
Kouzzina
Le Cellier
Liberty Tree Tavern
Nine Dragons
Planet Hollywood
Ragland Road
Rose & Crown
The Wave
Yak & Yeti

Enjoy and have fun! :thumbsup2

Also solo'ing in December (for the first time)

If I didn't have other food places I wanted to try at Hollywood studios I would have no problem doing sci fi alone. If I could eat enough to make a buffet worth the cost I would have no problem at one of those either, everyone is constantly up and down at a buffet so no one knows if you're alone or your party is up getting food.

I highly recommend Jiko for dinner. Definitely request a seat at the counter. I've seen many others dining solo there and the cooks keep you company and explain what they're doing. My wife and I went so far as to let them order all of our food and wine. Amazing experience

Turf Club at SSR has a bar area or you could dine outside and people watch as you eat.

I did a solo day last year and had the BEST experience at Biergarten in Epcot at Germany. They seat you with other guests, and it's a really yummy Bavarian buffet (think - meats, potatoes, cold salads, breads) with beer and wine! The people I was seated with were fantastic. We're still Facebook friends. :rotfl:

Biergarten is one of my favorites at Disney.. I have my reservation all ready for my upcoming January trip!
