So a soldier returned home to my town this week and after his family picked him up, they were unknowingly driven to his children's school - firetruck interception off the high way. All the kids (K-5) lined the street waving flags and cheering him on. My second grader was so bummed she couldn't reach his hand to high five him. :goodvibes Then she said maybe it was ok, because all the kids that did high five him said that they would "NEVER wash their hand again!" :rotfl: Love it!! Welcome Home Sir!

That's a wonderful story. I think you should send it in to Reader's Digest or something...sometimes all the bad news we hear crowds out the good stuff that's happening all around us.

agnes!

Awesome! Those are the kinds of homecomings that I like to hear about. Our soldiers deserve that. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Whenever soldiers come home from to our island, you can hear the cheering forever. They step off the plane and right in front of the gate and all the families line up to cheer and welcome them home.

Sadly, there was one time with no cheering. I think it has only happened a few on our island, but it was a big deal... when not only family members but many veterans of other wars, friends, current military etc. come out to the airport to welcome a soldier home one last time.

I love that story! We have a lot of military in our town. When a soldier from our neighborhood returns we line the block with cheering and flag waving!

We're not a military town, so this was really special. I was glad my kids got to see this/be a part of it. I know too many people who are disconnected from the military, so this was...awesome! :goodvibes

When fallen Canadian soldiers return home, they are driven from Trenton, Ontario (location of a Canadian Forces Base) to Toronto (location of the coroner's office). People line the overpasses of this section of the highway (Highway 401) and cars pull over as the motorcade rolls through. Radio announcements let people know when the motorcade should be passing through the various sections.

WONDERFUL news!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We indeed take so much for granted, it always brings joy to my heart and music to my ears when I hear another brave military member returns home safe and sound :goodvibes. Many thanks to him for his service to our country and his family for their many sacrifices. :flower3:

Please hug your babies at every opportunity ! I was clinging to my faith yesterday after news announced that our son's base was attacked - praise God he got word out he is ok . We can't wait for his delpoyment to be over in a few weeks and all our family to gather for a celebration. Thanks to the good Lord up above, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

That is hilarious! We live in a miltary town and the service members are lucky if they get a yellow ribbon on the mailbox!

THUMBS UP!!

That's great!

That is an awesome story!! I love to hear of military families that are honored appropriately. We've been members of the Patriot Guard Riders for years (DH was the state captain for over 2 years) so we've seen heroes come home smiling with all the welcome home ceremonies and on the opposite spectrum, we've been there for the fallen heroes. I love to be in a town when the town's people actually show up and support the troops!

Thank you and your DH for all you do in the Patriot Guard! A good friend was at a service for a fallen Hero and told me all about how wonderful it was to have the Patriot Guard there for the family and friends.
Thank you for caring for our Military members and the families.

I'm glad your son is okay.

I am glad your child understands how much of a hero that man is. This really made me tear up (could be that I am in the midst of my first deployment though :lmao: )

That is so nice to hear right now. We have 3 funerals at Camp Pendleton over the next few days, and it has just been one set of bad news after another lately. I love towns that support the military like that!
