So why are the cheap resorts on-site sold out Feb 07-14? According to the guide on the resort site, peak influx for this time of year isn't supposed to happen until the 14th. I tried adjusting my days by two days, and there still aren't any rooms available.

Is there some giant convention of Legionaires or cheerleaders or something that will be jamming up the parks during that time that I need to know about?

From what I've read here on the boards, there are cheerleaders staying at the All Stars. Not sure if there is another reason though.:confused3

Yep, cheerleaders. :cheer2: I was pretty worried too, but I'm hoping their competitions will keep them busy. I asked the same question a month or so ago, and other posters assured me that they didn't cause any major problems in the past.

Feb 7 - Feb 10 2008 Disney's Field Hockey Showcase
National High School Cheerleading Championship (February 8-10, 2008) All Star and CBR
Twirlmania (February 15-18, 2008) All Star Music, and POP Century (costs alittle more), and offsite

Have you tried calling? Some times even if it says online they are booked you can call and once in awhile they will still have a room.

have just looked on a site tripres (it wont let me put in a website and rooms are avalible at POP. On those dates. and at a reduced rate.

Just FYI :

There are cheerleader or dance/twirl competitions every weekend in February and the first two weekends in March.

I'll be moving this thread about resort occupancy to the resorts board.. it's a better fit there than here on Theme Parks.

Thanks,

Knox

Sorry 'bout that. I'll probably book offsite anyway, but my biggest concern was crowds at the parks...based on on-site occupancy stats. I don't do crowds well. :sad2: I figured that if the resorts are full, the parks will be as well.

Oh don't worry about me moving the posting.. you'll just get the best info here.. I was working on the assumption you wanted to book a value resort. :)

As for full resorts = full parks ...

Not necessarily true. Lots of times these cheerleaders and dancers and their supporters fill up the resorts but they are busy at their events during the days..

Same thing happens for free dining.. the restaurants are full.. but the lines for the attractions are generally quite short. :)

well in the evenings, after the competition, it might get crowded... but cheerleaders are easily spotted and avoidable, as they move in large groups, and are so darned perky.

The Daytona 500 is 2/14. I know a few years back when the 500 was running around the same time of my trip, I ran in to people that said they came in a few days early to do Disney. Also Mardi Gras is the 5th. New Orleans area schools have off through the 6th at least. So you might have a few finishing out the week.

But I think what one poster pointed out on a post some time ago rings true....
Value season more people choose to stay on site instead of off site.

A good barometer for crowds is the hours the parks are opened. They are showing the MK to be open until 8 or 9 most days (except weekends and pirates and princess party nights). A website, Touring Plans, that does a crowd calender based on history and actives going on in and around the area show crowd levels to be mostly 5's and 6's. This is based on a 10 point scale 10 being the worse. So based on those 2 things I say crowds won't be too bad.

Have a wonderful trip!!!
