Hello everyone,

As some of you know, I have been a member since 2012 and AKV and VGF are my home resorts. Over the years, I have added-on to both of my home resorts, but the process has never been the same. Last year, in the summer of 2016, I wanted to purchase additional points at VGF. At the time, I was told that no additional names were being added to the waitlist and the anticipated wait time was at least a year. Within three weeks of my inquiry, I received a phone call that points were available for my use year, but an immediate purchase was necessary due to limited inventory.

This past summer, I again sought additional points at VGF and was told a similar story, so, I decided to purchase additional points at AKV. I was told that points would be available within a day or two, but the wait ended up being two or three weeks.

When the point increase was announced a few weeks ago, I inquired about the possibility of purchasing more points and was told that no additional names were being added to the waitlists. Only Aulani and CCV were available for immediate purchase.

With this post, I am interested in knowing what others have experienced with adding points at sold out resorts. Do you get the impression from your guides that waitlists have dozens, if not hundreds, of names? Do you wait long for additional points to come through?

Thanks,
Jim 8O

What you are told by the sales person may be policy, may be their way of getting you to buy what they are currently selling. Could be that they just don't know or don't care.

Bill, I have wondered if it was a tactic to push points at active resorts. If someone expresses interest in a sold out resort and two to three weeks pass with no interest in a suggested active resort, then do the points magically appear?

I think that if you really want a sold out resort, you can get it. It will take patience and persistence on the buyer's behalf but by calling your guide often will get them to look more often on your behalf.

I recently added on at VGC, which has been "unavailable" for years. I had attended a DVC event on a Disney cruise, and spoke to a rep there about wanting VGC points (this was after he had boasted that he could get points for sold out resorts). He hemmed and hawed a bit, but eventually said he would get me added to the waitlist. Several months later he called me one evening with exactly what I wanted, and I completed the purchase.

Think as if you are the DVC sales person. You can either spend time selling larger contracts for the resorts that your boss wants sold out, keeping them happy and getting you more money or you can spend time messing around with waitlists for small contracts. Which would you do?

Supposedly, the BCV, VGC, and VGF are closed.

Within the past 10 days, we did add on 25 SSR points. 15 days ago, none were available, so we waited about 5 days.

Dec 11 we added on 25 points at AKV, no waiting for points to become available. Since then I have read one thread where someone was told all the sold out resorts had waitlists. Not sure if that was the truth because the announcement of prices going up drove people to buy, or if they were just trying to get that person to buy Copper Creek (or is it Boulder Ridge? I can never remember which is which).

Some years ago, when we first bought in, we told our guide we were only interested in BCV, which was "sold out with no available inventory" at the time. A few days later, the number of points we wanted in a good use year magically appeared and we bought them. It sounds as if that sort of thing still happens today.

We initially bought at Animal Kingdom and the day we bought we were told there were no points available and we were steered to SSR. I told the guide it was AKV or nothing. Amazingly the same day I got a call back saying the points at AKV were available so we bought on the spot. We immediately waitlisted for two 100 point contracts at BCV and waited about 6 weeks. All happened in 2008.

Over the summer, end of June beginning of July, we were in WDW staying at BWV. We were thinking of adding on there but DH and I agreed that our home resort VGF was the only place we really wanted to own and stay so we went to the preview center and toured CCR but pushed for VGF. We were told VGF was sold out no wait-list. I called our guide the same day and told him we wanted on the wait-list no other options would do for us. Three weeks later he called with 33points, we wanted 150. I turned it down because I was headed into abdominal surgery and I was concerned about the out come. Well surgery went well and I was kicking myself for not grabbing the 33 points. We have a Sept UY so for my birthday in August I called our guide but still nothing, I even got the lecture about having taken the 33 point when I could have. Well low and behold on Sept 1st all 150 points were magically available. So no last year's points but we got our 150 so I was happy. I really want 400-450 points in total but with VGF moving to $220 per point that won't happen any time soon.

We bought 25 AKL direct late November. We have to buy onsite as DVD is not registered where we live. As soon as we showed up in Disney I called and they had the points so we bought.

around thanksgiving time i called my guide to add 25 points to my akv resell contract to bcv or bwv he tryed to push me to poly or ccv i told him i only wanted bcv or bwv. i call ever week he kept telling me i did not need to call he would call me if they came in. around dec 10 i call and check on bwv and bcv . when nothing was available i asked to be put on akv wait list on dec 27 he call with akv 25 point with a feb use year which is my use year so i got 25 piont for 2017 and 25 points for 2018 so i took them :dancer::dancer:
