Sold out for add-ons too?

I read a Resales DVC blog that stated "Twelve of the 15 DVC resorts are “sold out,” meaning all the allocated points for that resort have been sold and you cannot readily purchase points for those resorts direct from Disney. Aulani, Copper Creek and Riviera are the only three resorts that are not completely sold out and are readily available to purchase direct from Disney." If true, I assume this would also be true for add-ons. I'd think that this would give existing owners some leverage on what they can ask when selling.

Disney has the right to take contacts in Right of first refusal when they are sold on the resale market. It gives them points to resell for add ons at all the sold out resorts. The only one truly sold out and you can’t buy direct is VGC in Disneyland.

You can still purchase the sold out resorts direct from Disney. They buy resale contracts and gain foreclosures and so constantly have some availabilty, you may have to go on a waiting list for some resorts depending on what they have for inventory, but all you have to do is ask.

Thanks for the insights. I am thinking of selling my two contracts via a broker. I've just started my research and I was surprised by what sellers as asking (and maybe getting?), even for small stripped-down contracts.

I told my guide that I didn't want to pay the Aulani direct price, and they offered other properties than what you listed that were at lower price points. I would call or chat with Disney to find out what the current direct price is for specific properties and if they are available.

YEP, this is where all the ROFR "Taken" contracts go.

I thought we couldn’t buy VGF now from DVC. Is that not the case?

I thought it was because the waiting list was already so long they stopped taking names
That's the case for VGC, not VGF. For VGF, they removed it from the online add-on tool because they're adding another building so the resort will be going back into active sales instead of being "sold out," perhaps with a different price. I think some people have reported being able to still buy there by calling and talking to a guide.

Yes, yes definitely got confused...

They want to match use year, so some use years may have inventory and others may be a "wait a bit" scenario.

I did a direct add on of 50 points at BWV about 3 weeks ago without any problems or wait.
And these are treated as full privilege direct-from-Disney points (like your originals), correct? No restrictions? Looking to add on to our VGF contract (maybe 60 points).

I thoughts points taken by ROFR can be scrubbed and repurposed to another UY by DVC? (like, that is one of the perks of buying direct — ability to specify UY)

Nope. DVC keeps them in the use year they came from. Use year allocation is part of the original filings and they can't reallocate them willy-nilly. But you can specify use year when buying direct, DVC just might not have that use year available.
