Sold a DVC Contract, paid bills

Many DVC owners have found they could sell a contract years later and receive more than they paid for it.

We purchased a resale back in '99 for $56/point and 10 years later sold in order to purchase a condo. We were able to sell for more than our purchase price after realtor fees even though we had already recouped our original purchase price in vacations enjoyed staying at DVC resorts over those 10 years.

DVC has maintained an enviable position in the resale world where most timeshare contracts end up being sold for pennies on the dollar after 10 years or more.

Fortunately, we still have contracts to use and currently could recoup more than our original purchase expense should we find the need to resell.

Like the title says.
I sold 1 one my contracts. Not because I needed to, but travel times are changing.
So with the money I received from the sale, I paid off several bills.
I still have 4 contacts and can keep going to Disney, but feeling a little blue right now instead of relief.
Has this happen to anyone else?
Thanks for listening
You sound like you really enjoy Disney so I think you’re feeling blue because you potentially won’t go quite as much as before. You’re mourning for something you lost, it’s gonna take time. (Even if you made money on it, the Disney element adds an emotional layer to this financial transaction. Financial win, emotional loss. It happens in life.)

YES! We did this as well. We sold all of our contracts and did some remodeling at our house. I do miss it, but ultimately, it was the right decision. Like others have said, no annual dues to worry about and cash in our pocket to do other things we wanted to do. It gets easier. We did it almost 1 year ago now and it got less sad as the months went on

How much money did you make when you sold? Real estate should appreciate in value. If you are not able to sell these contracts at a profit then they are a poor deal.

You do not understand what DVC is. DVC is NOT real estate. It is NOT an investment. It is a timeshare. You are prepaying future vacations. You should never buy into a timeshare, Disney or otherwise, expecting it to appreciate in value.

I have owned DVC quite happily for almost 20 years. Over that time I have sold several contracts for more than I originally paid. That was fortunate but certainly not something I planned when I purchased. I understood I was buying a timeshare... Disney, yes, still a timeshare. There is no way to know how long DVC contracts will hold value into the future, especially as contracts expire.

If vacation style changes selling a contract can make sense. I sold a Boardwalk contract for exactly that reason. Made a few $$ on it... felt a twinge when I signed the papers but years later I know it was the right decision. And I don’t miss paying the dues on those points lol

We just sold our BCV for a profit. We bought at 74 a point and sold in December for 145$ We used profit to buy larger AKL contract bc its expires in 2057 instead of 2042. We have three children 23,20, and 13. Grandkids are sure to follow in the next 10 years , and we wanted more points and a longer contract!
