My parents want to join us on our trip in Dec., and my DM has a friend who bought 4Day PH's with the military discount and was not able to use them. So now my DM wants to buy these off her friend to use with us in Dec. I told her she couldnt use them since neither she or my DF are in the military. Who is right?

She would not have a problem using them if she did buy them from her friend. Disney's policy is the tickets are non-transferable, but they do not enforce the rule. Years ago, they used to take your picture, and the picture was actually on the ticket. Now, there is no way of telling who the ticket belongs to.

It is a reg PH pass, looks no different than any other PH pass....let her take them off her friends hands, and she saved a few dollars. IMO.

PS...shhhh...don't tell anyone, but I just e-mailed my sister this morning asking what her military discount is on passes. I may ask her to buy the passes for us, so I can get the discount. Shhhhhhh.

Military tickets usually state that someone in the party needs to be a valid military ID holder and that the CM at the gate can ask to see that ID. If no one can produce a valid ID, all the tickets can be confiscated. That's the rule, however, being in the military and using DL and WDW miltary tickets for many years, we've never been asked to show ID at the gate- only when purchsing the tickets. That's not to say it doesn't happen, it's just up to you whether to take the risk.

I'm not so sure about that, might want to double-check. We bought ours at the Shades of Green office and they look just the same as everyone else's tickets. Last year, when we stayed at the Contemporary, same thing. HTH!

ETA: I'm not sure what tickets purchased from the local MWR office look like, so that might be what you're referring to.

We used military PH passes purchased from SOG in Nov/Dec 2002. I just checked and the back of the ticket states "5 Day Military Park Hopper". Not sure if this has changed since then, but that's what our passes state. To my recollection, we were not asked for ID during our stay, but I also believe you or a member of your party is supposed to be able to produce a military/DOD ID if asked...

We just bought our 5 days park hoppers from our post MWR. They state "Military" on the back. We have never been asked to show ID to use our tickets either, but I don't think I would take the chance. We have bought tickets for others in our family, but they are traveling with us. I know there is a policy in place at SOG that ID card holders may purchase tickets for up to 5 family members traveling with them. Good luck!

Your mother should have no problems. I have purchased tickets for family (as gifts) and they have travelled to WDW and used the tickets. There is nothing in the military literature that states these tickets are only for use by military. Heck, here at Tinker they sell them to workers at the Depot (all civilians). While the worker has an ID not one member of their family has any kind of ID. They can use the tickets without any problems too.

The only time WDW really checks any kind of ID is when they have special promotions like they did last year for the Iraq war. Because they are targetted [solely for military they can and have checked IDs. The tickets you purchase at MWR are not any kind of special promotion.

I don't think you'll have a problem. My FIL is retired military and will purchasing our hopper passes for us. He is allowed to do this for family, but he certainly won't be with us every minute of the day.

My dad is retired Military and my parents vacation with us whenever we go to Disney. When we stay at SOG with them they will buy tickets for us as gifts. On our last trip in May, the back of the ticket did state that it was a Military Park Hopper. I've never been asked to show an ID though.

For this next trip, my parents bought themselves park hoppers from a local military base and my husband and I sprung for AP's from Disney.

Enjoy your trip!!

Did they buy the tickets at SOG or through a military base? I'm pretty certain there would be no problem if it is just park hoppers bought with a discount.

Disney's policy is the tickets are non-transferable,
Disney's policy is that they are non transferrable once they are used.
