I received a letter from SOG today saying that they will be moving theire guests as of March 31, 2002. They are moving us to the Contemporary Garden Wing for our 10 night stay in DEC 2002. I am not familiar with the Contemporary.
I was thinking of cancelling and waiting to stay at the new SOG. What should we do. We are traveling with a 2yr old and 5yr old. Is this better accomodations or should we delay our trip?

Any help is appreciated on the subject. Would love to hear from people who have stayed at Contemporary Garden Wing.

I have stayed at SOG but not the Contemporary, though I have visited there to eat several times. I think it is comparable in terms of accomadations and in some ways would be superior. A big plus for traveliing with young kids would be transportation. While SOG bus service is good, from Cont you are on the monorail making it very easy to return to the hotel for naps and swims. Also the Contemporary has Chef Mickeys which is a great charactar meal and my personal fav restaurant, the CA Grill (great view of the fireworks!)
Only downside is one of cost since the restaurants at SOG are more reasonably priced than Disney.
I would go for it, you will probably never get another chance to stay at the COntemporary for such a low price!

I'd keep my reservations, and enjoy the low room rate at the Contemporary!

While it's not my particular cup of tea in terms of theming and decor, the rooms at the Contemporary are fairly large. One BIG selling point ofcourse is the monorail and the location.

Have a great trip!

If I could get to stay at the CR for a SOG rate I would jump at the chance. I think you will love the availability of the monorail and I am sure the children will just love it too. Have a great trip. Don't cancell. Maybe you can go back again and stay at the SOG when it is refurbished.

We are also bumped to the Cont for our June trip and to me this is even better. I think I may have done cartwheels when I heard the news! Not only are the rooms comparable in size and you get Mickey soaps and shampoos in the huge bathrooms and you have access to the monorail BUT did you know you are also within a 10 min walk to Magic Kingdom?? With a 2 and 5 y o, I expect you'll be visiting MK quite a bit!! I've dreamed about staying at the CR since the first time I visited and saw it. I am now waaaay more excited about this trip than my kids are!

Definitely don't cancel! Carla

I feel the same way as disney4rus2002! The Contemporary has always been in my memories from childhood when I was a day visitor to WDW. I always dreamed of staying there as a child. Now I am going to get the chance at the SOG rates. We are very excited!

I didn't know if it was kid oriented or not. I expected it not to be. But you say it is very kid oriented. Kids 2& 5

And if you have requested a pool side room at SoG you will get first floor Bay Side at the Contemp. My 4 year old nephew loved just sitting in the concourse and watching the monorail last year, even though we did not stay at the CR then. Their playground is supposed to be great also.

The Contemporary is comparable and actually exceeds SoG in a number of ways. I think most people will be happy with the temporary lodgings, but as with all things, you can't please every one.

If it were me, I'd be happy to take the Contemp even at the highest rate of $99/nt + tax. It's most definitely worth it, IMO, however what I like is not necessarily what you and your family like.

If I were you, I'd check out info on the Contemp by visiting the Disney website. It may help to give you some better insight into what the hotel has to offer and may make you feel better.

If not, you can always cancel. :)
