Me and my BFF are having a "Girls Only" trip next month, and plan on a lot of Pool Time. I already called to make sure we could use floatys to lounge on :cool1: (yes you can), but I was wondering if someone could tell me which pool is least used or has less kids? Also, do you know what time the pools close?

Thanks!

Kelly

The one pool is supposed to be a 'quiet pool'. It is near the hot tub. From our experience, though, this pool can be just as crowded with children as the other one (Mickey shaped one). Nobody has ever been using floaties when we've been at the pool. I would think you would need to be in the bigger, Mickey one, to use them. I'm surprised that they allow them. The Mickey pool was warmer than the other one - almost too hot on our vacations.

There has never been any 'lifeguard' out there when we are there. We've stayed at SOG many times. If you stay in the Mickey pool you can walk right up to the counter at Evergreens and buy drinks.

Enjoy your girls vaca! Have you stayed at SOG before?

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I was kind of surprised too that they let you bring the floating lounges in the pool. I didn't want to buy/pack them unless I was certain. If the pools crowded, we won't use them. We'll probably use the pool more when most people are at the parks, or late at night, when the kiddies are all tucked in. Do you remember what time the pools close, or can you swim any time?

This is my 3rd trip, the 1st without my boys. (shhhhh, don't tell them, they are at their dads for the summer!) We just thought it would be fun to have an inexpensive (we are going 1/2 on the resort) relaxing time. I don't know if we'll even go to the parks, but we will definitely hit some of the wonderful restaurants, and go to the clubs at DTD.

The pools are officially open from 7am until midnight - but we were in there much later than midnight on a couple of occasions.;) I think as long as you are being quiet they don't bother with you. The hot tub is open 7am - 10pm.

I noticed in the SOG info that there is no lifeguard at the pools. The towels are only located at the Millpond pool - the Mickey shaped one. But - if you are going to carry out any kind of floatie I would recommend staying in the older section, because the pools are much closer to that section. All the rooms were refurbished at the same time, so I think they are the same inside.

I have a question about the more expensive "poolside rooms". Are they just pool "view" rooms, or can you walk right out of your room to the pool. Thanks for your help. We're really looking forward to our family gathering next month at SOG!

If you are on the bottom floor, you could walk right out to the pool.

When we were there in November, the Mickey pool as not heated, but the other one was. I noticed a PP said that the Mickey pool was too warm when they were there. I wonder if there are problems with the heater?

SOG is a great resort. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Thanks fairestoneofall for the pool info!

BTW...I love the photo of the kids sleeping after a long day at WDW. It reminds me of our family!

The poolside rooms - those numbered only from room #132 thru #164 - exit directly out to the pool. They all have a little patio (in place of the balconies in rooms above) with a table and two chairs. There is nothing but grass and some landscaping between you and the pool. Those rooms all face the Millpond/Mickey pool.

The rooms numbered #101 thru #113 face the Magnolia (quiet) pool. I am not sure, but I think it is similar to the set up I described above. Personally I think the area around the Mickey pool is prettier to look at.

Keep in mind that if you are in the 'newer' section, near the parking garage, you will have quite a walk to either pool. It is fine if you aren't toting things with you, but it would be less convenient for those trying to go back and forth between their room and the pool.

SOG is wonderful. :thumbsup2 We've stayed at POR, Cont., POFQ, and ASM. We love the convenience of SOG, the price and the huge rooms.

We are heading back on June 28-July 9!

Thanks Momof6! I just checked out the SOG website. There is a picture of Mickey & Minnie at the quiet pool. It looks like the poolside rooms are very close to the pool. That will be great! We can't wait!!!

Poolside rooms (that you pay extra for) are on the bottom floor, meaning you can walk directly out of your room and be step away from the pool (either of them). However, you can get a poolview room (upper floor) without paying extra, all you have to do is ask to be close to the pool or for a poolview. We've been lucky enough everytime we've asked for a poolview room to get one, I prefer not to have a poolside (bottom floor) room just because sitting out on the patio is less peaceful in that situation.

The pools don't really have enforced hours of operation, I've been out there past the closing time and never had anyone (even the security walking around) say anything to anyone at the pool as far as it being time to leave. So aslong as everyone is generally well behaved they aren't strict on the hours.

We spent one vacation without doing the parks, just going to the pool, doing a little shopping, a little eating, etc. and it was a wonderfully relaxing vacation I hope yours is too!

Yes - that is a very good point about the patio not being as private. We thought that as well. You could also see right into those rooms :scared1: - so it was necessary to keep the curtains completely closed for privacy. Not sure how important that is for everyone, though.

We have also had good luck requesting a particular view and getting it:wizard: . We generally like the view over the new landscaped area/pond.

We did try on one vaca to avoid the parks. It kind of didn't work! :rotfl2: What we did do, though, was to say, 'we are only going from 9-1 and then have the whole rest of the day/night for non-park relaxation. We always have non-park days built into our vaca, too. This time we are going to Boma for dinner one night. That will end up being a non-park day. Maybe a few hours in the morning shopping at DTD and then lots of time at the pool or just hanging out on the patio.

You will have so much fun! When are you there?
