We are staying at ASM very soon. Is there an AAFES type store at SOG and would we be able to use it with our MIL ID even if we are staying at ASM? Also, are the prices worth the drive - am thinking of basic food items and t-shirts etc. We would be visiting before 01APR. Thanks.

Ok, I don't know what AAFES stands for but there is a shop in SoG, both for food items and souvies. The prices there are reasonable and also of course, no taxes. This is the best thing about the tickets there to us. Also the restaurants do not charge tax either.

I'm not sure if souvenir prices are worth the drive, but don't forget that you can get your tickets at a reduced price at SOG (for all WDW and other area attractions.) Check out the SOG web site for a price list.

Yes, your MIL can purchase tickets and souvenirs at SOG with the proper ID.

SoG will be closing on March 31 for 18 months. Tickets can be bought after that at the Comtemporary resort north wing where the SoG guest will be "housed" duing the closing. They will be selling a limited numbers of items there but the AAFES shop will not be relocated to the Contemporary.

Ok, I guess what I need to know is if the store is restricted to only those staying at SOG? I would show my Military ID (MIL ID) not send in my Mother in Law. And are the prices are equal to a on base exchange. Sorry to confuse.

No you do not have to be staying at SoG to shop there. It isn't really like a regualr AAFES but more like an AAFES Shoppet (sp?). They also sell disney souviners and pins. I wouldn't say they are as cheap as on base but they are a lot cheaper than anywhere else at WDW on most things.

that the Disney Apparel that SoG sells in their shop is not the regular licensed Disney stuff that you can get in the parks. It's nice, and not as expensive, but if you see something in a park or Disney resort shop, you probably won't find it at SoG.

I think...correct me if I'm wrong!

CulterP...You are absolutely correct that the merchandise in the SOG shop is not Disneyworld merchandise. They so have some items that have pictures of Mickey, Minnie etc. but there is nothing that says Disneyworld on it. Also, I was there two weeks ago and never noticed any pins for sale. I do not think that they carry the Disneyworld pins that you would find in the parks. We also noticed that the price of soda, water and snacks was really no cheaper than at the convenience store in the Poly.

If you into trading pins, last year they had a basket up by the register with pewter pins. CM's liked to trade for them as they were different and you couldn't get them in WDW. They were also much cheaper. However, with it closing down, I don't know if they will still have the pins.
