Softball Season started today.

My girl made varsity and actually got some playing time today.
I took almost 200 shots, burst here and burst there add up really quik. Anyways sun was awfull today, I could not have asked for a worse angle FACES WERE ALL SHADOWS. And it was moving quik, was pretty much set a little after game finished.

Great action pictures. Oh how I miss softball season. Both my girls played high school ball and then played for traveling teams. Got the joy of attending 2 national championships. My DH and I were the first husband/wife coaches in our town's girls softball league. Enjoy the season!

I use canon 20Ds, When I have access to the field I put a canon 70-200mm F2.8 lens on it. On days like yesterday when I dont(opposing coach offered to let me use his dugout, I declined), I use a canon 70-300mm USM, because it allows me to shoot through the holes in a chain link fence.

Always manual settings, I try to get the shutter upto 1/1000th if possible but yesterday the sun was at their backs or sides all day so I had to slow it down and up the ISO. Kind of hard to not blow the highlights when shooting at a face in a dark shadow, when forced to choose between saving the face or the highlights, I always save the face, parents will pay for a picture with blown highlights but they will never pay for a picture if they cant see their kids face.

I do shoot baseball, tournaments and a couple leagues. But I had not shot any since a Thanksgiving tourny so there was a little rust.
