Can someone explain how soft openings usually work?

I just read a thread that Soaring will have passholder previews April 15-17.
I know they also offer this option to DVC members.

Are regular park guest ever giving the opportunity to take part in soft openings? Is it announced in advance or is it just a matter of being in the right place at the right time?

Our trip is April 23-30. I'm wondering if we stand a chance of trying Soaring, or seeing the new Stunt show during our trip. We are not AP holders.

If you are not an AP holder or DVC member, you would most likely be turned away. That is what I witnessed for the Stitch Escape AP preview.
But there will probably be soft openings following right after the AP preview.

I was part of the soft opening for ToT. We were there a day or two before the official opening. We were real disappointed because we wanted to ride it, and all the promotional material we had seen stated it was "scheduled" to have opened already.

We just walked by it anyway, and there was a sign saying something like it was operating and limited number of guests were allowed on. So, we walked on in and rode.

Regarding the stunt show (Lights, Motors, Action), you're almost guaranteed to be able to see that one. Reports are that it will be open full time starting in mid-March. Current reports point toward soft openings on March 13.

For Soarin', chances are it will be open pretty much full time to the general public following the AP preview.
