I'm having all 4 impacted wisdom teeth out on Friday. The doc says the removal is "complicated" and I probably will hurt for 4 or 5 days. So I have to find soft foods so I don't starve! I'm planning on milkshakes, ice cream, pudding, and yogurt. Oh, mashed potatoes, too. What else can I eat?

Make sure there are no seeds in your yogurt... they can get trapped in little places and cause a big infection. You won't be able to use a straw so you'll have to get milkshakes you can eat with a spoon.

Jello is a good one....

Hmm...polenta? Pureed soup.

Well...I'm already out of ideas. I'll post again if I remember anything.

Fresh fruit smoothies are another option, however you probably will not want to use a straw. When I had my wisdom teeth out I was told the suction from sucking can actually tear out the stitches.

Another tip, I had trouble swallowing after my surgery for a day or so and couldn't swallow my pain pill with just water. I foud if I stick it in a spoonful of yogurt it would go down that way. Don't know why but it did.

Another thing you can do is take two long sock and I mean long enough to tie under your chin and over your head. Tie the toes together and put a baggie of ice down each soch then tie over the top of your head. Easy way to place ice packs.

Good luck with your surgery.

My husband just had his wisdom teeth taken out a few months ago. He pretty much lived off milky drinks like the bottled Frappucinos, chocolate milk, and not-too-thick milkshakes.

Be careful with hot food for the first day or so-- your mouth won't heal as quickly!

Ugh Oral surgery is the worst! After I had mine I lived on Pastina (baby pasta) with a little chicken broth or butter or sauce if you like.
Wishes for a speedy recovery to you! :goodvibes

What more do you need? :cool2:

Ah, ok, fine. How about tomato soup?

My doctor gave me a little contraption that did that. Hopefully the OP will too.

Good luck OP!!!

cream of wheat and pierogies were two things that I ate a lot of when I had some surgery. I thought raviolis would be good, but the tomato sauce stung.

If you're worried about getting enough nutritional value for those few days, slimfast or ensure can help with that.

Campbell's Soup at Hand are good (the kinds with no solids like mushroom or cream of chicken).

I had all 4 of mine out at the same time a little over ten years ago. This probably isn't what your looking for, but I ate donuts from Dunkin Donuts :rotfl: . I love the chocolate cream ones (the ones filled with chocolate frosting and covered in powdered sugar), and that's what I was craving. So I pulled off tiny little (non-chokable) pieces and covered them in the chocolate filling.

I don't know how far you live from the doctor's office, but the best piece of advice I can give is to get you pain meds as soon as you can so you can have them ready when you need them. I lived a little over 2 hours from my doctor's office. We waited until I got home to get my prescription from our local pharmacy. I made the drive home fine with no pain, but by the time the pharmacy got around to filling my prescription (they were busy so it was least a 1/2 hour), I was almost in tears. For me, only really the first full day was the worst part as far as pain. The rest of the time was more of an annoying uncomfortable feeling, with the swelling and not being able to open my mouth very wide.

Some kinds of baby food are pretty good too. I lived off em for at least a couple days each time I got my braces adjusted. :)

I had all four of mine out not too long ago.

Stove Top Stuffing was actually pretty good to have! Just take small bites and it was great. I had the mini-raviolis from Chef Boyardee. Once again I could just use my tongue to break it up a little if needed.. no chewing. Mashed Potatoes, Soup Purees, Oatmeal, Pudding, Ice Cream, Mandarin Orange Slices (small enough to swallow), Mac N Cheese, Mashed Bananas, Tamales, Frozen Cool Whip, Rice, Applesauce.

I couldn't handle anything except Ice Cream and Popsicles for the first day. Mainly just from being a bit hazy and swollen. After that first day I could eat all of the other items with minimal chewing. Pain wasn't too bad after the first day. I stayed on 'soft' items for about 4-5 days. My teeth only really hurt after a meal, the rest of the time it was a dull pain.. but not bad. Honestly. So, take a pain pill... have a meal... and I was a happy camper. I mainly needed soft items that I could either break apart with my tongue (if needed) or take small enough bites to just swallow. Best of luck!

When my dd got her braces on, she ate a lot of macaroni with butter, scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes.

When I had two of mine out, I lived on pudding and canned veggie soup. You know, the kind with the mushy vegetables that nobody usually wants. I threw in a bunch of crackers and made mush. Mmmm, mush.

bake potato with cheese at wendys!!!!!!!! i lived on them

When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I ate mac and cheese for 2 days straight :rolleyes1 I just made sure to boil the pasta until it was almost mushy, and then I chopped it up into teeny pieces. Good luck with your surgery :grouphug:

Frozen Margaritas. The cold will numb your mouth, the tequila will numb your brain. When your mouth heals you can post a request for headache remedies.;)
