My mom and I are visiting the World in October for four nights.

My mom has full upper dentures and can't really chew tougher foods.

Can you guys recommend any restaurants that might have softer food? Or menu items that might be softer?

I know that Disney chefs do their best to be accommodating for people with dietary needs, allergies and the like. Do you think they could make adjustments for her needs?

I have pretty bad jaw problems and must follow a soft food diet (though I sometimes break it for a yummy steak...painful but worth it). There are so many yummy, softer foods around the world. I loved the cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier, mac and cheese found everywhere, 50's has a great meatloaf meal, there is a great chicken chowder at Whispering Canyon...that is to just name a few. Trust me, just about anywhere you eat she'll be able to find something!:thumbsup2

If mom's dentures don't fit well enough that she has to eat only soft food, she needs to see a dentist. She may have suffered weight loss or bone loss which has caused her dentures not to fit as well. Perhaps they did not fit well to begin with and she needs new dentures. Maybe they're even rubbing her gums and her gums are sore. Perhaps she is not using a good denture adhesive. A trip to a dentist now may uncover some previously unrealized problems that can be resolved sooner rather than later.

My mom has full upper and lower plates. She is in her 90s. She uses PoliGrip strip denture adhesive. She doesn't eat steak or corn on the cob, caramels or nuts but she eats lots of foods. Chicken, fish, ground beef. Not crusty bread but softer bread. She has always liked her vegetables well cooked, softer than I prefer.

As the previous poster said, there are lots of yummy foods to be found at the World. Your mom will have multiple choices everywhere. Don't be afraid to ask for anything she needs.

You know, I'm not 100% sure how well her dentures fit. I know that she's been back a few times to get them adjusted. I'll check on that because I didn't realize that might be part of the issue.

I will say that it's not that she can only eat soft food, like mashed or other foods. She struggles with steak, bagels, etc. At home she does eat chicken, pasta, burgers, etc.

My dad is only in his early 70's but has full upper and lower dentures, as he had them pull all his teeth out. He is able to eat ANYthing, including steak (He LOVES steak). I dont know if it has to do with his age but I would think it might be a denture problem if thats the only reason she has to eat softer food. My dad's dentures do not really inhibit him in any way, eating-wise.:) Good luck!

I went to Disney a few years ago a couple weeks after I had my wisdom teeth removed. I was pretty well healed but still was sticking to soft foods. I remember that the Boma buffet had a lot of great soups and salads, and stews that were easy for me to get down.

You didn't say how long your mother has had the upper plate. The fact that the upper plate covers the palate is hard for a denture-wearer to get used to. The health of the lower teeth could be a factor as well. If they hurt, are loose, or the upper plate does not hit all of them correctly, that could throw Mom's chewing off. I remember when Mom still had some of her teeth but they bothered her so much that she would only eat very soft foods.

The Gnocchi with 5 Cheese sauce at Tutto Italia in Epcot is wonderful.

The cheese soup at Le Cellier is one of my favorites too.

The potato wapped snapper at Flying fish melts in your mouth.

The crab crusted halibut at Narcoosees.

The 3 cheese mashed potatoes are wonderful at Citricos and you can get this side with the chicken which is also tasty.

Have you looked at the restaurant menus available on www.allears.net? That might help.

The buffets might be good. They all have pasta, mashed potatoes, a lot of them have salmon, various kinds of chicken, desserts, soups that sort of thing.

We love Boma, they always have salmon, and a lot of rice, couscous type side dishes and they always have a few different soups. And the Zebra Domes for dessert are nice and soft and tasty!

Prime Time has good meatloaf.

Liberty Tree Tavern has a turkey dinner that comes with all the trimmings including mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and stuffing.

I think any buffet would be great, also some of the Italian places like Tony's, Mama Melrose, Tuto, would all have pasta dishes.

Chefs de France has quiche and french onion soup.

Le Cellier has salmon, cheddar soup and a chicken dish or two and you could get a steak if you enjoy that but want to make sure your mom has something to eat!

My DD has CP and doesn't chew at all. She just moves the food around a little. She can only eat soft foods and we have always been able to find something on every menu at Disney that will work for her. The buffets do give a little more variety.
