I have seen pictures of the pull out bed in the lower categories (looks similar to Poly beds), but am wondering if the sofas in cat 1,2,3&4 flip like the lower categories and are they comfortable

Thanks!:thumbsup2

Category 4 is the same as the other categories and is comfortable enough IMO. The Cat 3s have a double bed in the sofa so they pull out more like a standard sofa bed. The single bed is a murphy bed that folds down from the wall and cannot be seen when put away. I do not know about the Cats 1 & 2 but if you check out the VIRTUAL STATEROOM TOUR in the DIS DCL FAQ thread 6 down from the top of this forum you will see lots of pictures of those rooms. :)

The Sofa in the Roy Suite on the Magic is a plain old sofa. No pull out bed or flip bed.

The sofa in 8100, a Cat 3 Handicapped room, is a standard double or queen size sofa bed. Was fine for our 2 year old but I probably wouldn't want to sleep on it!

As said already, the Category 1 suites do NOT have sofa beds. The Passporter says that they do, but they don't.
The Cat 2 has a sofa that folds out, just like the kind you would find at home, and so do the Cat 3's. We've had two teen girls sleep on them, but it was a tight squeeze and they are very lumpy and sagging.

In the Cat 4's, they basically remove the back cushions to make the sofa into a single sleeper.

Also....in case anyone is interested, the Queen beds in the suites DO NOT separate into twins.

The sofa bed in our cat 3 suite back in 2001 (believe it was 8546) was the most ordinary sofa bed you can imagine - lumpy mattress, not comfortable even to just sit on, which you had to do to use the electronics in the cabin when the bed was set up. Our older DS was 7 & he slept there; but when we cruised in 2005 and 2008 we got connecting cat 6 cabins because I didn't want to spend that much money for my kids to sleep in a sofa bed.

We have sailed in a cat 3 several times since 2002. We noticed on the EB repo in 2005 that the sofa beds had been replaced. Our DS has slept on them every trip and even commented how much more comfortable the new ones are. We were in a cat 3 on the Magic last week, and he commented again how comfortable the sofa bed was. I do remember that on our first couple of cruises that the sofa beds weren't that great, but they have improved.

Just got back last week from a mid ship cat 3. My 7 and 4 year olds slept on the pull out and slept great. The sofas are the easy kind to pull out where the blankets and pillows are actually stored under the sofa. No cushions to pull off, etc. Worked out great.
